New App Can Make Life Easier for Vets in Lockdown

UK vets struggling to find ways to deliver veterinary care to their clients’ dogs and cats during the coronavirus pandemic are being urged to sign up and take advantage of a new App that can make their life much easier.

PetPanion, devised by Koko the Labrador, is a solution that makes not physically being in a veterinary clinic a possibility, once the initial onboarding process is complete.  It enables vets to make a pet’s full medical history available to the owner, simply by uploading the pet’s files to the App.

This process allows the veterinary record to stay with the pet, allowing any vet, anywhere, to be in a position to competently assist an animal, after quickly viewing previous treatment, prescriptions and special needs via PetPanion.

Under normal circumstances, this is ideal for owners regularly travelling with their pet on holiday.  Now, with vets’ surgeries largely closed, it is a means for pet owners to find a veterinary professional available to assist their dog or cat and make sure the treatment and advice given is as informed as it can be.

Additionally, the App enables a pet owner to book appointments with any vet in the UK and also request repeat prescriptions from their registered vet’s clinic.  Records can also be accessed via the App by dog walkers and pet sitters who may need to step in to assist an owner, ensuring they appreciate any condition, such as arthritis, and know of any dietary advice previously provided by a vet.

Personal pet care subscription and digital veterinary consultations are on their way through PetPanion, with the App’s developers currently developing a wellness check, in collaboration with the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey.

The App’s creator, Qian Huang, says: “Using this App can make a vet’s life much easier in these worrying times. Pictures of a pet and any conditions being suffered can be uploaded to the App, so they can be viewed digitally, with no need for the vet to be in the same room as the pet. We would urge vets to contact their clients and ask them to download the App for free, so they have a new communication channel and can offer a truly digital experience.  It will cost their client nothing and can greatly assist their clinic.”

Vets can sign up for PetPanion registration at https://forms.gle/wxTXN18t3KJvk1oB6 which will begin a process through which they can also be paid digitally for their consultations and other services, again removing the need for them to be at their clinic to take payment.   PetPanion is also wanting veterinary professionals, who can offer online advice or services, to sign up via this link

Furthermore, it is currently seeking ways to assist with the home delivery of prescribed medication for pets, completing a programme of holistic support for both pet owners and veterinary professionals at this unprecedented time.

Editors notes

PetPanion is a new App that enables dog and cat owners to request their pet's medical history from their vet and then keep all of that at hand, via the App, in case they need treatment from another clinic, or mobile vet, at some time or other. The App also facilitates virtual vets appointments, allowing consultations to be carried out digitally, and enables vets to be paid via the App.
