Southampton-based law firm, Trethowans, has raised £500 for Abby’s Heroes by challenging its employees to travel around the world, or the equivalent distance – that’s 25,000 miles - in 60 days.
The only rule was no motorised transport with cars, boats and planes dubbed as cheating. So, lawyers and support staff from across the business came together for this tough physical challenge, with all forms of exercise allowed.
Each individual staff member was responsible for choosing how far they would travel and by what means. Some opted to run or walk whilst others decided to cycle or even paddleboard. All of Trethowans’ employees were encouraged to join in as a way of keeping the team spirit alive and boost morale during these challenging times.
Abby’s Heroes, also located in the city, provides financial support to families who have been affected by childhood cancer, including patients of the Teenager’s & Young Adults’ cancer ward and Piam Brown children’s cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital.
Chris Whiteley, Trethowans’ Managing Partner, said: “I am delighted to announce that collectively our staff smashed the target, covering over 26,000 in 60 days to complete our round-the-world challenge.
“As a thank you to our people in Southampton for their contribution, we are pleased to donate £500 to Abby’s Heroes, the office chosen charity. It does some amazing work in the local area, so we know the money is going to a wonderful cause.”
Trethowans, which also gave two charities nominated by its offices in Salisbury and Bournemouth £500 each (£1,500 in total, including Abby’s Heroes) as part of the initiative, has been offering legal services to businesses and individuals in the south for over 150 years.
