centre, is introducing its new programme ‘A Journey Through the Five Senses: Exploring Emirati Culture’. Running from 21 November to 19 December 2024, the programme will offer local residents and visitors the opportunity to engage with Emirati heritage through a holistic sensory experience that includes art, music, coffee, perfumes and folk tales.
The programme is based on five sessions, each dedicated to one of the senses (taste, sound, sight, smell, and touch), allowing participants to deeply immerse themselves in Emirati culture. From tasting authentic Emirati flavours to inhaling the scent of traditional incense, the programme provides an interactive experience that opens up new horizons for understanding Emirati culture.
Highlights of the sessions:
Touch: The Art of Emirati Theatre with Najwa Al Hai – November 21, 7:30pm
Playwright and director Naji Al Hai will lead a rich session on the heritage of Emirati theatre, revealing local folk stories through a profound theatrical style.
Voice: Voices of the Emirates with Al Anoud Bakhmas – November 28, 7:30pm
Graphic Design Trainer Al Anoud Bakhmas showcases the rhythms of Emirati heritage in a unique visual style, allowing participants to journey deep into Emirati music.
Taste: The Art of Hospitality with the City of Elias – December 5, 7:30pm
Arabic coffee expert Madina Elias explores the history and culture of Emirati coffee, highlighting the importance of this coffee as a symbol of Arab hospitality.
Vision: Discovering the Beauty of the Emirates with Hussain Al-Moussawi – December 12, 7:30pm
Emirati photographer and designer Hussain Al Moosawi presents his vision of the UAE’s urban landscape, highlighting the role of these landscapes in shaping cultural identity.
Scent: The Art of Perfume with Mike Metzger – December 19, 7:30pm
Incense expert Mike Metzger presents a unique session showcasing the secrets of traditional Emirati perfume mixing.
Building bridges through shared cultural experiences
Shaza Al-Mutawa, founder and director of Kutubna Cultural Centre, expressed her vision for the programme as an effective platform for promoting cultural dialogue. She said: “This programme is not just a cultural experience, but a step towards building a community that understands and appreciates Emirati heritage on a deeper level. We aim to provide experiences that leave a deep impact on the participants and bring together different cultures.”
