“Jamal A. Rahim: The Art Behind the Stars” Solo Exhibition
Location: Kutubna Cultural Center, Nadd Al Hamar Dates: On view until March 16, 2025
Paying homage to Hollywood and Arab glamour, the Bahraini artist Jamal A. Rahim, who was born in Bahrain in 1965 and educated in India, is presenting 22 artworks that portray iconic screen stars, including Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, Umm Kulthum, Fairouz, Abdel Halim Hafez, among others. Using bold colours and approaches of execution, Rahim depicts the figures using atypical colours and gestures, some of which almost look calligraphic. The exhibition is located in Kutubna, a multi-function literary space, so you are welcome to also browse through books and take a break at the cafe after checking out the art show. @kutubnadubai
