Recently, Rahim presented an exhibition (entitled “The Art Behind the Stars”) in Dubai, where a selection of his figurative paintings were showcased at Kutubna Cultural Centre. It included images of other famous artists, including the Lebanese legend Fairuz, the Egyptian screen star Soad Hosny, and Umm Kulthum’s great contemporary, singer Abdel Halim Hafez. All of Rahim’s expressive, non-classical portraits are executed with the use of atypical colours, gestural markings, and sometimes calligraphic elements. He uses oil paints, which are at times manipulated through a palette knife, giving the painting an edgy, jagged feel.
