"Kutubna" Cultural Center, an independent library and cultural center in Dubai, announced the launch of the second edition of the Dubai Humanities Festival.
Taking place from November 2024 to May 2025, the festival celebrates the work of Gulf-based scholars and academics, and provides a platform for emerging ideas in the humanities. According to a statement, a copy of which was received by our newsletter, the event will cover topics including history, philosophy, literature and art history, and aims to promote public engagement in research in the region.
This year’s festival theme is Research in Times of War, and features talks and discussions in both Arabic and English. The festival builds on the success of last year’s inaugural edition, which was organized by Badour Al Rahma, a 21-year-old Emirati student now studying at Harvard University. The event attracted young Emiratis interested in exploring topics traditionally reserved for academia, making it a unique space for intellectual exchange outside of universities.
