Today marks the grand opening of the new Café Kutubna within the Kutubna Cultural Center in Dubai, located at Madina Avenues, Nadd Al Hamar. This new café enriches the cultural hub with its unique combination of specialty coffees and literary atmosphere.

Opened in 2023, the Kutubna Cultural Center has quickly become a local favorite for its carefully selected books and vibrant cultural activities. The addition of Café Kutubna introduces a fresh venue for community gatherings and enriching experiences. The café’s concept mirrors that of renowned coffee houses in Chicago, known for their role as inclusive spaces for art, music, and intellectual conversations among book and coffee aficionados.

Café Kutubna offers an array of coffee and tea drinks, fresh juices, and mojitos. Their coffee is sourced from Cazador Specialty Coffee Roasters, an Emirati-owned business, using heirloom coffee beans from Ethiopia’s Yirgacheffe region, known for its spicy, aromatic qualities. For decaffeinated options, beans supplied by Falcon Coffee Roasters are used. Tea enthusiasts can indulge in specialty single-origin teas provided by Hambin, a woman-owned company from Qatar that collaborates with tea artisans in Amoy, Fujian.

The snack offerings at the café include brownies, chocolate chip cookies, lemon cake, and a variety of fruits. The menu also caters to families and children with options like cheese boards paired with fruits, babyccinos, and hot chocolate. Café Kutubna is open every day from 10 AM to 10 PM.

Moreover, the café hosts coffee tasting sessions and espresso-making workshops that are open to all, focusing on teaching the craft of various coffee drinks and the intricacies of coffee preparation, from bean selection to grinding, ensuring the best flavor extraction. These events are designed to be affordable and accessible, welcoming participants from all walks of life.

Shatha Almutawa, Emirati founder and director of Kutubna Cultural Center, said: “One of our goals at Kutubna is to build inclusive, creative, and intellectual communities. Café Kutubna is a space for people to read books and discuss them with others. We want people to attend meaningful events at the center and reflect on these events with friends at the cafe. The coffee shop is a gathering place where friendships are built, ideas are tested, and where folks can come out of the isolation that busy lives and screens impose on all of us. We also want it to be a place where inspiration is ignited or re-ignited. We have seen people revive writing projects they had started but were too discouraged to continue in the past. Seeing them write with new vigor is exciting for us, and we hope to keep seeing more people find inspiration and hope at the center and Café Kutubna.”
