Go Nordic this winter for snow-sure slopes and Northern Lights

Three Norway ski holidays to book now in Heidi’s Black Friday sale

Heidi’s co-founding brothers, Marcus and Alexander Blunt, are particularly delighted that the ski holiday company they started seven years ago is enabling more and more people to discover the winter magic of Norway, where they grew up skiing.

Heidi has seen bookings for Norway ski holidays jump by 107% compared to November last year, and 184% since November 2022.

Out of over 300 resorts that Heidi offers across Europe, Trysil and Voss in Norway are both now ranked among the company’s top 35 best-selling resorts. Bookings for Trysil are up 125% on last year, and up 167% for Voss.

The increasing interest in the region is being met with nine new flight routes to Norway from the UK launching this winter season. As soon as they are operating, these flight options are aggregated by Heidi’s clever tech into all the Norway ski holiday search options on heidi.com.*

So, why Norway?

Marcus Blunt, Co-Founder of Heidi, is happy to explain: “Well, for a start, the scenery of Norway is in a stunning world of its own, so it makes for a unique skiing experience."

“Norwegian ski resorts are easy to reach, and thanks to their northern latitudes, they’re blessed with long seasons and snow in abundance. There’s also lots to enjoy aside from time on the slopes, including skidoo driving, cross-country skiing and even watching the Northern Lights - if you’re lucky!

In fact, if visiting Scandinavia to see the Northern Lights has been on your bucket list for a while, 2025 is the time to go - the Aurora Borealis are expected to be more frequent and intense due to the sun's 11-year cycle approaching its solar maximum. Although never guaranteed, Norwegian resorts such as Trysil, Voss, Hemsedal, Norefjell, and Narvik are good vantage points for spotting the Northern Lights whilst on a ski holiday.

Norway has a rich heritage of skiing, with downhill skiing developing in Norway in the 1800s. Resorts like Trysil and Voss are geared up for families, with plenty of children’s slopes, expert ski schools and fun parks to enjoy.

Marcus adds: “You’re never too young to ski - a lot of children learn as soon as they’re able to walk, so it’s where our passion for snow and skiing first started. Hotels are family-friendly too, with many situated right by the slopes for ski-in, ski-out convenience. It’s an ideal choice for beginners, families and even intermediates wanting an easy-going adventure.”

Trysil

Trysil is Heidi’s top-selling Norwegian resort and bookings are up 125% compared to last year - for good reason. As Norway's largest ski resort, it has slopes for all abilities, including 360-degree skiing around the fjell, which is rich in cruisy blue and red runs. A Trysil ski holiday is perfect for families wanting to go to a large ski resort with lots of varied terrain and things to do, from night skiing and dog sledding to cross-country skiing.

Trysil has a huge range of accommodation, including large hotel resorts which have excellent facilities for families and good access to the slopes, as well as smaller cabins and chalets in the woods, most of which are ski-in-ski-out.

Voss

Voss is Heidi’s second best-selling Norwegian resort and has seen a 167% year-on-year increase. It’s easy to reach, with the option to transfer from the airport by train, so you can literally hop off the train from Bergen and straight onto the ski lift!

A true winter playground, Voss is blessed with incredible scenery and plenty for beginners, intermediates and families to tackle, including mellow terrain and quiet open slopes. With its northern latitude, Voss skiing has a long, cold season. December to February are ideal months to capture the best of the season’s snow conditions.
