If the long wet summer has made you a frazzled parent or carer, running out of steam and ideas of things to do to entertain the children, the Lakeland Maze Farm Park, combining a wide variety of attractions with both a giant and mini-maze, could be the solution for the Bank Holiday weekend.
With the sun finally making an appearance, it is the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine, spend some time with family and friends and enjoy the chance to let the kids run free and explore a range of activities.
If temperatures soar, visitors need not worry, as they can soon cool down by heading to the Water Wars feature, where players engage in a battle, by firing water-filled balloons at opponents.
As well as Water Wars, guests can enjoy a magnificent 150-foot Super Mega Ride n Slide, on which riders whizz down the slide in an inflatable ring. Alternatively, the kids can burn off some excess energy by bouncing on super giant pillow Air Bouncers and spring-free trampolines.
Other attractions included in the entrance price, include outdoor karting, giant draughts, wooden panel maze and a 15-minute tractor and trailer ride. When it’s finally time to refuel, visitors can sit back and relax with a picnic, having beautiful Lakeland scenery as a backdrop.
If the weather does take a turn for the worse, people shouldn’t be deterred, as there is plenty on offer indoors, including a soft play area, climbing wall, indoor go-karts, a tube maze, giant Lego, coin-operated quad bikes, and a picnic area.
If that isn’t enough entertainment, the 100-year-old family-run working farm, which used to house 200 cattle, is now home to an array of animals including alpacas, llamas, goats , cows, chickens, pigs, sheep, small rodents, chickens, and a Huarizo, which is an alpaca/llama cross called Wally. Visitors can feed the animals, pet them, and enjoy animal demonstrations throughout the day.
In addition, visitors are invited to let off some steam in the outstanding maze, which has won the national Maze of the Year award twice and which is this year designed as a steam train. The impressive 8-acre maze leads adventurers through a number of twists and turns, as they try to negotiate their way through, perhaps getting help at ‘junction boxes’ so they can take the next correct path on the route.
The maze has been designed to take 60 to 90 minutes to complete. For those looking for something a little less complicated, or just wanting to try a mini version, a 15 -25-minute maze has been created, designed as a station master’s pocket watch.
The Lakeland Maze Farm Park in Kendal is open from 10am to 5pm with plenty to do for a full day out. Entry to the maze costs £12.45 for adults and children but admission is cheaper if purchased online in advance at www.lakelandmaze.co.uk where tickets are priced at just £11.45. There are discounts for seniors and carers and children under two years old enter for free.

The Lakeland Maze Farm Park is located at the gateway to the Lake District, in the village of Sedgwick near Kendal, just a few minutes drive from the M6 junction 32. Since opening in 2004, it has twice been awarded the Maze of the Year title, for its annual maize maze - spread over 8 acres and cut into 8-foot-high maize - and its min-maze. However, the park is much more than just the mazes, with animal petting, feeding and demonstrations, a daily tractor and trailer ride, Air Bouncer pillows, wooden panel maze, Water Wars water battle attraction, a 150-foot Super Mega Slice n Ride slide, karts, climbing wall, bouncy castle, indoor play area, outdoor ball game area, coin-operated quad bikes, vintage tractors and much more. Families can bring picnics and enjoy those indoors or outdoors.
