The Dorset-based sustainable tea pioneer featured on Monday’s programme, showcasing what makes a good tea
Dorset-based Clipper Teas, featured on national TV this week, as Food Unwrapped presenter Kate Quilton visited the Beaminster factory for a deep dive into how Clipper’s teas are made.
The programme, which aired on Channel 4 on Monday evening explored tea taste preferences between Britain and Europe, and why for many tea enjoyed on holiday, doesn’t stack up to a brew made at home.
Dedicated to Great British Food, the episode offered viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how Clipper crafts its award-winning blends. From ethically sourced leaves to fully biodegradable tea bags, the feature highlighted Clipper’s commitment to organic and Fairtrade practices.
During the visit, Quilton toured the factory and joined Clipper’s master tea blender, Daniel Parr, for an exclusive tea tasting session. The segment explored the nuances of flavour in black tea, as well as the differences in taste between the UK and overseas with variables ranging from the water to the choice of milk.
Bryan Martins, CEO at Ecotone UK, said:
We’re incredibly proud to represent Dorset on a primetime show like Food Unwrapped. Our mission has always been to make tea that’s good in every sense – from how it’s grown to how it tastes. We hope this episode helps more people understand the value of choosing good quality tea.
Daniel Parr, who guided the tasting and featured in the programme, added:
Tea is our passion and it was fantastic to show how much care and expertise goes into every Clipper blend. Tea is wonderfully diverse and can offer so much variety to cater for different tea drinkers’ preferences both here and abroad. Without compromise, our focus has always been on crafting vibrant, flavourful teas that embodies our mantra of Natural, Fair and Delicious. For us, that’s what good tea is all about.
Founded in Dorset over 40 years ago, Clipper Teas is UK’s first and longest-standing Fairtrade tea brand and is a trailblazer in sustainability – from being the first tea brand in the UK to switch to unbleached, fully biodegradable tea bags, to sourcing from the finest quality, organic tea gardens.
From its home in Dorset, Clipper’s products are exported to over 50 countries around the world. Last year alone, Clipper produced over 14 million boxes of tea –enough to fill Wembley Stadium 155 times.
Food Unwrapped’s Great British Grub episode (series 25, episode 5) is now available to watch on Channel 4 online (4oD).
