RKW, the UK’s leading SDA brand, have announced an exciting development in their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint. As part of a long-term plan to become more self-sufficient and introduce green energy to the company, solar panels have been installed at the Stone Distribution Centre in an investment worth £100,000.
The introduction of solar panels will see RKW reduce their reliance on external energy sources, with internal batteries that can store energy to ensure none is wasted, allowing for the excess energy to be used during periods when the panels might not be as efficient, such as nighttime. This allows the company to enjoy greater energy independence and cut energy bills, as well as CO2 emissions in the long-term.
The 750,000 square metre Stone Distribution Centre houses 220 workers and the installation of solar panels will see a huge drop in CO2 emissions, with over 18,000kg per year expected to be saved. By investing heavily in sustainable and renewable energy sources, the Distribution Centre will become 11% more self-sufficient, allowing the company to become more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
When asked about the development, RKW Managing Director Rob Sutton said; “It’s a great first step to take, and we will continue to find ways to decrease our carbon emissions through product updates, less packaging and green energy. Our decreased energy bills will allow us to pass savings onto our customers and will help us continue fulfilling our mission of providing high quality products for unbeatable value.”
RKW’s eco-friendly mission
RKW have spent more than 30 years helping families across the UK to save money on energy, offering a number of diverse and affordable energy-saving products across their SDA and houseware ranges. This continues to be at the forefront of the company’s mind as they search for new ways to decrease their carbon footprint and help thousands of families be more efficient with their own.
This aim stretches to sourcing items responsibly and utilising sustainable and reusable materials whenever possible for a lower environmental impact, whilst ensuring all products use minimal energy and provide maximum performance. Whether it's an air fryer, a slow cooker, or even just a glass jar, meticulous care and consideration are invested into each product to guarantee that customers receive the best possible products.
Introducing the Eco-Saver Air Fryer
Tower’s Eco Saver air fryers are the latest products to embrace this ethos, with a compact design to take up to 20% less counter space. Despite their compact size, their performance remains unaffected, and they may use up to 70% less energy than conventional ovens. This collection offers the same cooking capacity as other air fryers but are more streamlined to save space in the kitchen. The smaller size has additional benefits: it reduces the need for excessive packaging, leading to less space taken up in delivery vehicles like vans and trucks. This, in turn, reduces the amount of fuel needed for transportation. The minimised packaging also results in less waste, and as the packaging itself is 100% recyclable, reducing the impact on the environment.
Air fryers are renowned for how much energy they can save and have helped households across the UK to save energy throughout the cost-of-living crisis. Capable of saving up to 70% on energy usage compared to a conventional oven, they have been a lifeline to families that have struggled with rising energy bills. Eco Saver air fryers go one step further, providing the same high-quality performance whilst taking up less worktop space compared to similar capacity fryers. This falls in line with modern trends as it allows for more organised, clutter-free kitchens, providing more space to prepare meals without obstruction.
