The London Card Show, the most highly anticipated trading card event in Europe, is gearing up for its 12th displayof rare and valuable trading cards, which are set to leave collectors and enthusiasts in awe.
This year's event promises to be the best yet, featuring the presence of industry-leading grading and authentication service PSA, former football legends John Barnes and Emile Heskey as main-stage headliners, a new Retro Gaming Zone, Win-a-Box Tournaments, and a spotlight on some of the most expensive and coveted trading cards from across the globe.
As Europe’s largest card show, it’s no surprise that the last event saw some very high value cards including a rare 2004 Panini Lionel Messi card, in which the owner was offered a Lamborghini in exchange for their treasured card. The offer was declined as the owner instead decided to wait and have their card regraded from a 9.5* to a 10 (the highest condition), which would raise its value to an estimated £300,000.
However, it wasn’t just sports cards stealing the spotlight, as one attendee pulled an extremely rare Blastoise card from an original 1999 base set pack during a pack break that, if graded a PSA 10, would be worth between £1,500 and £2,500!
There were a handful of rare Pokémon cards spotted at the event, such as a 2017 Shauna Full Art Premium Trainer card, graded at a PSA 10 - making it worth around £10,000. A first edition generation 1 Dark Dragonite card, taken from a 2000 Pokémon rocket set and worth a striking £22,995, also attracted the attention of many TCG (trading card game) collectors.
Lucrative cards and rare collectibles aren’t the only thing for showgoers to look forward to at the London Card Show’s May event as the world-renowned grading service, PSA, will be offering their services to take attendees’ cardsaway and have them graded in the US.
PSA has had a significant impact on the trading card and collectibles market and community. High grades from PSA often command premium prices, as collectors and investors place a premium on authenticated items in pristine condition. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned collector, there’ll be something for everyone at the London Card Show’s 12th event.
