Charles Bentley, a leading outdoor leisure brand with over 160 years of heritage, has generously contributed to a Winchester Cathedral project by donating its Melbourne Premium 5 Burner Gas BBQ, a best-selling product in its outdoor living range.
The donation supports Winchester Cathedral’s Deanery, which is being reimagined as a luxurious and welcoming temporary let for the remainder of 2025, until a new Dean is appointed in the new year. British brands are invited to contribute by helping to furnish the space in a way that respects its heritage while promoting a more sociable and functional environment for guests and visitors. Designed for both style and performance, the barbecue will take pride of place in the Deanery garden, helping to create a relaxing outdoor environment for guests to enjoy.
“We’re proud to contribute to a project that champions British history, community spirit, and collaboration,” said James Bentley, Managing Director at Charles Bentley. “At Charles Bentley, we believe in providing products that bring people together and we’re delighted that our Melbourne barbecue will play a part in making guests’ stay at the Deanery a more sociable and enjoyable space.”
Founded in 1860, Charles Bentley has grown from a traditional brushware manufacturer to a trusted name in British home and garden products. Today, the brand is known for its elegant outdoor furniture, high-quality brushware, and premium barbecues - designed to bring style, comfort, and practicality to outdoor living.
This partnership with Winchester Cathedral highlights the value of community collaboration and the significant role British businesses can play in preserving and revitalising cultural landmarks for contemporary use.
Alasdair Akass, Director of Development at Winchester Cathedral, said: “This is a quintessential British home that has been brought bang up to date with the support of many valued suppliers. Renting the Deanery is a one-of-a-kind opportunity and we look forward to welcoming families to enjoy its tranquil and beautiful setting.”
