February 2026 - As the Spring Equinox approaches on the 20th March and days stretch longer, minds drift to warm springtime escapes. It Mallorca Unique Spaces welcomes the arrival of a new season at its rural retreats where nature, movement and slow living are at the forefront of the experience. Hotel Valldemossa, which reopened its doors on the 18th February, and Can Aulí in the heart of Pollença provide immersive gateways to the island at its most authentic, from mountain hikes to long, sun-drenched afternoons shaped by the landscape.

Off-season Mallorca reveals a tranquil atmosphere, an opportunity for exploration without the crowds, from hiking in the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana to discovering the island’s cultural and gastronomic offerings. As temperatures climb to 20℃, Mallorca bursts into full bloom with the blossoming of the almond trees revealing breathtaking landscapes, a time recognised by the locals as the most endearing.

Hiking Partnership with Local, Martin Bestard

Beyond the Balearic Isle’s renowned beaches and coves, Mallorca is home to incredible hiking routes and its landscape beauty can be best enjoyed in the spring where milder temperatures and blooming wildflowers await. Hike along iconic routes like the Camí de Castell d’Alaró, the Torrent de Pareis, and trails surrounding Valldemossa. These paths reveal dramatic landscapes and lead to peaceful villages, offering an immersive excursion into Mallorca’s land.

It Mallorca’s boutique luxury retreats, Can Aulí, in the heart of Pollenca, and Hotel Valldemossa, in the Sierra de Tramuntana, have partnered with local hiking guide, Martin Bestard, to offer guests the opportunity to explore the UNESCO Tramuntana Mountains and its surroundings. Martin is a born-and-bred Mallorcan with an impressive knowledge of the island’s landscapes, paths, and stories - all learned firsthand. His walks take visitors beyond the tourist trail, offering exclusive access to private estates, little-known routes, and local insight that only someone rooted in the land can offer. Each experience is personal, tailor-made, and connected to Mallorca’s natural and cultural heritage. A portion of Martín’s fee also goes back into preserving the historic landscapes he walks through - making every step part of a bigger sustainability story.

Cycling in the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains

Over 300,000 cyclists visit the island of Mallorca every year to enjoy over 270km of trails. The Sierra de Tramuntana stretches across the northwest coast of Mallorca and is renowned for its challenging yet scenic routes that combine rugged mountain terrain with panoramic sea views. One of the most famous routes in Mallorca is the climb to Sa Calobra, a 10-kilometre ascent with 26 hairpin turns that has become a must-do for many keen cyclists. The ascent to Puig Major, the highest peak on the island, offers another demanding climb rewarded with spectacular views. Other notable routes include the ride from Andratx to Pollenca, the picturesque route from Sóller via Deià to Valldemossa and the scenic trip to Cap de Formentor, which locals refer to as “the meeting point of the winds”.

It Mallorca’s hotels offer exceptional facilities for cyclists in collaboration with specialist partner Medfeel, providing guests with everything needed for a ride in the Tramuntana mountains. Services include dedicated transfers, professional coaching, guided tours and high-quality bike rentals, alongside expert biomechanics support. Cyclists also benefit from a fully equipped cycling centre complete with secure bike racks, pumps, a repair workshop, personalised route maps departing directly from the hotel, and convenient bike cleaning facilities.

Back at the Hotel:

Following a day in the mountains, guests can return to the It Mallorca hotels’ serene wellness spaces, designed in harmony with nature to help reset body and mind for the new season. The Sanctuary at Hotel Valldemossa features a programme inspired by traditional Chinese medicine and the Western wisdom of lymphatic drainage, “Valldemossa Longevity.” For a path to rejuvenation, this cutting-edge spa blends ancient traditions with modern therapies for an unmatched approach to wellness. Since opening in February 2024, the Sanctuary has firmly established its place as one of the leading spas on the island, drawing in travellers seeking rest and connection.

At Can Aulí, the art of disconnection defines the experience. This intimate wellness space, complete with a massage cabin, hammam and sensory shower, invites guests to leave the outside world behind and immerse themselves in complete privacy. Treatments, crafted with the highest quality organic products, are designed for deep revitalisation. As the spring equinox marks a season of balance and renewal, each personalised ritual offers the chance to reset and embrace the months ahead feeling grounded, energised and renewed.

Editors notes

It Mallorca Unique Spaces is a brand of hotels, restaurants and luxury concierge that offer exceptional experiences. All buildings that house the hotels have had prior lives and the idea of adding new bricks to Mallorca seems totally absurd to Miguel Conde, owner of IT Mallorca. Calatrava, Sant Jaume and adults only escapes Can Cera and Can Alomar are nestled in Palma’s historical city centre and surrounded by Renaissance-era palaces and plazas. Adults-only retreat Can Aulí is location in Pollença’s photogenic Old Town and at the foot of the UNESCO listed Tramuntana mountain range. A passion for art and design is reflected in all properties. Many of the masterpieces that adorn the communal spaces and bedrooms are done by local artists specifically created to collaborate with the hotel and its surrounding. Each hotel has a space for relaxing and balancing body and mind offering a variety of treatments and rituals.
