Black Country Chamber of Commerce names new Chief Executive

The Black Country Chamber of Commerce today announced Raj Kandola as its new chief executive to take the organisation into its next stage of growth.
Currently deputy chief executive of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, he brings more than a decade of experience working with the chamber network and supporting Midlands businesses to grow despite significant economic and global challenges.
Outgoing CEO Sarah Moorhouse announced she was stepping down in July to pursue a new opportunity in the United States.
Phil Purssey, Chair of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, said: “On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Sarah for everything she has given this chamber over the past four years. Her drive and commitment to Black Country businesses have helped transform this organisation and she leaves us in a strong position.
“Raj is exactly the right person to build on those foundations. His experience across the chamber network, his understanding of this region and the relationships he has already built with our team and members gives the Board complete confidence in his appointment. We look forward to welcoming him.”
Sarah said Raj has worked closely with the Black Country Chamber on several shared regional priorities, including supply chain support linked to last year’s JLR cyber crisis, the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) and the ongoing conflict in Iran.
She said: “I have known Raj for a number of years and have seen first-hand the skill, energy and integrity he brings to everything he does. There is no one I would rather hand this Chamber to.
“We have worked together on projects that matter to businesses right across this region and I know he shares the same passion for the Black Country that has driven me throughout my time in this role. I am leaving the Chamber in exceptionally good hands.”
Raj said: “It was going to take an amazing opportunity for me to leave Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce after ten fantastic years, and I’m honoured that I’ve been chosen as the next CEO of this fabulous organisation.
I’ve seen first-hand the strength of the Black Country Chamber and the difference it makes to the businesses doing remarkable things across Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
“It’s a really exciting opportunity to build on the strong foundations Sarah and the team have put in place and support our region in continually punching above our weight on a national and global scale.”
Sarah will remain in post until October, working with Raj and the Board to ensure continuity for members and staff throughout the transition.
