Family-owned and run holiday park, Ladram Bay in East Devon offers a wildlife-filled paradise for animal and nature lovers alike.
The park recently achieved a distinguished Green Tourism Gold Award for its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. With its own private beach, a nature trail and wild areas dedicated to supporting many habitats, guests can discover many ways to connect with nature on the park’s doorstep.
Park guests get access to a stunning sand and pebble private beach at Ladram Bay, backed by red Devonian sandstone cliffs. The area is a hotspot for sightings of bottlenose dolphins, with large pods frequently visiting during the summer months. Eagle eyed rock poolers can also find a range of intriguing sea creatures, from star fish, crabs and sea slugs to pipefish and lumpsuckers.
Plant enthusiasts love exploring Ladram Bay’s beautifully landscaped areas, featuring a range of vibrant flowers including Purpletop Verbena and Seaside Daisy. The park is frequently buzzing with activity from attracting pollinators including bees and butterflies, while offering food for native bird species.
Guests at Ladram Bay also have access to an abundance of wildlife hotspots less than a 20-minute drive away. Castle Brake, Ladram Bay’s sister site some five miles down the road, has its own wildlife trail on site, beautiful rural walks, and dedicated conservation initiatives to monitor local species including more than 100 bird boxes, dormouse boxes, and reptile felts. Woodbury Woods is also on the park’s doorstep, with Woodbury Common considered one of the most important conservation sites in Europe. It draws many bird species of conservation concern including the Dartford Warbler, the Hobby and the Nightjar.
The summer months also bring many breeding birds to Seaton Marshes including kingfishers and curlew. Up to 23,000 wildfowl and other wading birds travel to the Exe Estuary in the autumn, while waterbirds can be seen at very close range in the winter including black-tailed godwits and wigeons.
Otter Valley Wildlife Walk is within a 10-minute drive of Ladram Bay, with its salt marshes, reed beds, low-lying meadows, and pastureland fostering a rich diversity of species. As well as a vast array of birds including buzzards, peregrine falcons, and sparrowhawks, the area is home to swans, herons, brown trout, grey mullet, and salmon. Many insect species also reside in the valley, including dragonflies, damsel flies, and butterflies.
With a variety of short breaks and longer stays available, the East Devon park is the perfect holiday destination for a truly memorable wildlife spotting adventure.
