Vintage Charm, Modern Comfort: A Bathroom Makeover

Interior designer and founder of The Baked Tile Company, Lesley Taylor, proves homeowners can enjoy all the charm of a vintage interior scheme with none of the hassle in a new bathroom makeover.

Using tiles from her own collection, Lesley has created a bathroom that pays homage to the property’s rustic past, while injecting a touch of 21st century styling.

Lesley said: “This bathroom is in quite a traditional house with lots of beams and vintage detailing, which is something the homeowner wanted to build on.

“We wanted to use product which would look like it’s always been there, but we needed to consider the practical elements too.”

Lesley delved into The Baked Tile range to pull together a mood board featuring three very distinctive tiles.

The floor uses Marrakesh Terracotta Brick in two different finishes, while Designer Basic in Boux was used on three walls to complement the distinctive Tuscany Flower Décor which takes centre stage.

Lesley explained: “We wanted to create a spacious bathroom that wasn’t interrupted by a separate shower cubicle. So we created a wet room complete with tiled shower tray to give the feel of a more expansive bathroom.

“We laid Marrakesh Terracotta Brick in both light and dark variants in a classic herringbone style to add rustic charm. And unlike real terracotta, there is no need to seal the tiles which means minimal maintenance is required to keep them looking stunning.”

To create a showpiece behind the bath and shower enclosure, Lesley used Tuscany Flower Décor – a stunning tile that looks handcrafted.

Lesley said: “Tuscany Flower Décor is incredibly shiny with a gorgeous undulating surface. It looks like a real artisan tile, but it can stand up to everything a modern bathroom can throw at it.”

To complete the look, Designer Basic in Boux – a luxurious off-white shade – was used on the remaining walls.

Lesley said: “The Designer Basic range has been designed to complement a wealth of patterned tiles and ensure homeowners can keep their renovations to a tight budget.”

Marrakesh Terracotta Brick is available in two finishes, Light Matt and Dark Matt, and is priced at £71.98 per m2. Tuscany Flower Décor is £59 per m2, while Designer Basic in Boux is £55 per m2. All are available from The Baked Tile Company.
