brainstrust is proud to announce the return of its annual Wear Grey campaign from October 1st to 7th, 2024. This campaign raises awareness and critical funds to support people affected by brain tumours, bringing the community together to show solidarity and share personal stories.

As well as donations, this year supporters can take part in two impactful ways:

  1. Create a short video of yourself wearing grey and explaining why you’re supporting Wear Grey. Post the video to your social media using the hashtags #brainstrust and #weargrey.
  2. Post a status update on your social channels, completing the sentence: “I Wear Grey today, for the people of the brain tumour community and brainstrust so that...” Be sure to include #brainstrust and #weargrey in your post.

By sharing personal stories, the charity is hoping to bring more awareness of the hidden challenges faced by those living with brain tumours. The support and experiences of real people are what drive this campaign forward.

Already the Wear Grey campaign is bolstered by the support of well-known public figures: Miles Jupp, renowned actor and comedian has shared his support via a recorded video. Miles was diagnosed with a brain tumour a few years ago and earlier this year took his experience to the stage with a sell-out tour where he spoke about his experience with a brain tumour. Another familiar face from this year is young Ravi Adelekan, who just a few months ago won the nations heart and received Alesha Dixon’s infamous Golden Buzzer becoming a Britain’s Got Talent Semi Finalist with his Dream Team choir. Their aim was to put the brain tumour community on the national stage and bring more awareness and fundraising.

The campaign’s message comes at a particularly poignant time, as one of the biggest shows on mainstream television Emmerdale features a leading character, Moira Dingle (played by Natalie J. Robb) recently being diagnosed with a brain tumour in a storyline that highlights the emotional and physical toll that such a diagnosis can take on individuals and their families. This prime-time storyline on ITV brings much-needed attention to the realities of living with a brain tumour, which brainstrust supported the production company with and this further emphasises the importance of brainstrust’s work in providing support to patients and their families.

Did you know?

  • More than 80,000 people in the UK are living with a brain tumour diagnosis.
  • 40% of all cancers spread to the brain.
  • It is the most common form of cancer in people under 40.

brainstrust invites everyone to participate in the "Wear Grey" campaign and make a positive impact on the lives of brain tumour patients and their families. As part of the campaign, brainstrust offers a wide range of Wear Grey merchandise in their online shop, or the public are encouraged to pull something out from their wardrobe and wear it this week to show support. Grey is the international colour for brain tumours.

CEO Will Jones explains "This year Wear Grey is timely. Brain tumours are on the national stage, and our community have a golden opportunity to amplify why we need change. In his review of the NHS Lord Darzi highlighted unmet needs and inequalities in our community, a major television character on Emmerdale being diagnosed with a brain tumour putting brain tumours in the public eye and our Choose Grey campaign running 1st -7th October. We’ll be highlighting why people are taking part on our social media with reels and stories bringing to life the real impact of a diagnosis. Look out too for some famous faces throwing weight behind our awareness drive throughout the week. Ultimately, it’s an opportunity for individuals and communities to come together, show their support for brain tumour patients and help us make a real difference in their lives. By raising awareness and funds through this initiative, we will make sure more people are supported sooner on their brain tumour journey."
