On Monday 13 May, Lord James Arbuthnot, President of Veterans’ mental health charity PTSD Resolution, hosted a reception at the House of Lords. The event brought together key stakeholders from across the armed forces community, security sector and mental health organisations.
The reception provided an opportunity for PTSD Resolution to review its achievements in delivering trauma therapy through its network of 200 qualified therapists nationwide. Since its founding in 2009, the charity has helped over 4,500 veterans and family members, with a near 70% reliable improvement rate for those engaging with treatment.
Speaking at the event, Lord Arbuthnot highlighted the charity's unique approach: "PTSD Resolution delivers effective, prompt and accessible mental health support with minimal administrative overhead. Every penny raised goes to helping veterans and their families, with treatment costing an average of £940 per person—delivered completely free of charge to those who've served."
Representatives from partner organisations attended, including ASIS, CGI, Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec), COBSEO, The Comedy School, Change Grow Live, Fighting With Pride, Global Helping Hands, The Human Givens Foundation, Lest We Forget, The Poppy Factory, Pro Bono Economics, RAF Benevolent Fund, The Rifles Regimental Association, The Ripple Pond, ASDIC, The Bridge for Heroes, Veterans Outreach Support, Walking With The Wounded, and the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals.
Colonel Tony Gauvain (Retired), Chairman of PTSD Resolution, stated: "I want to thank our incredible team, our volunteers, and our trustees for all of their help in making our work possible. The psychological pressures faced by veterans and those working in the security industry share many similarities, and our Human Givens Therapy approach has proven remarkably effective for both groups, addressing the underlying emotional needs disrupted by chronic stress. It's through the dedication of our team that we can extend our reach to all who need our support."
The event also saw the appointment of three new Ambassadors to PTSD Resolution: Adrian Moore, Lt Col (Retd) Rob Philipson-Stow OBE, and Chris Elliott—all veterans who will help to raise awareness of the charity's vital work. Chris Elliott, who received life-changing therapy through PTSD Resolution, remarked: "This organisation saved my life. I'm honoured to now help other veterans access the same support that transformed my future."
"A significant new partnership was announced with the Chartered Institute of Information Security. This collaboration will provide specialist mental health support for cybersecurity professionals at risk of burnout, alongside trauma awareness training for line managers working in cybersecurity companies."
Charles Highett, CEO of PTSD Resolution, concluded the event by emphasising the charity's continued commitment to innovation:
"Working with our partners and support organisations is absolutely vital to everything we do. None of this could be done without the invaluable funding provided by all who support us—we are most grateful for this support.
“The generous £80,000 grant announced today by Byron Turner from Lest We Forget Association is a perfect example of this vital support. Our partners provide 60% of our referrals, creating essential pathways to veterans in need. Thanks to our grant funders, corporate supporters, and generous fundraisers, we're been able to treat over 400 veterans this year. We're deeply grateful to everyone here—your support truly makes all the difference to those who've served."

PTSD Resolution: Free, Prompt, Confidential and Effective treatment for Military Post-Traumatic Stress
PTSD Resolution, Charity No. 1133188, provides therapy for the mental welfare of Forces’ Veterans, Reservists and their families. Treatment is free, effective and delivered promptly and locally through a network of 200 therapists nationwide, and also by phone and internet. The charity can also work with organisations to help the mental welfare of their non-veteran staff, by arrangement.
Founded in 2009, the charity is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists to the Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services (QNVMHS). It has had over 3,500 referrals to date, and delivers therapy in an average of seven sessions, with major number of cases seeing an improvement to where the client and therapist agree that no further therapy is required.
The charity is one of the only organisations to provide therapy to veterans suffering with addiction issues or who are in prison - as well as to family members, including partners and children, who may experience the symptoms of trauma from living with a traumatised veteran.
PTSD Resolution has a uniquely ‘lean’ operation, with no salaried staff or assets - funds are used to deliver therapy and for essential research and public information.
