In collaboration with The Daily Mile, Start-Rite Shoes launches two new school shoe styles: Encourage and Motivate. The new school shoes strengthen The Daily Mile and Start-Rite Shoes’ joint ambition to support healthy development and physical activity, encouraging children to discover the world at their feet.

The Daily Mile, supported by INEOS, improves the physical, social, emotional, and mental health and wellbeing of children. It is a social physical activity, with children running, jogging, wheeling, or walking for 15 minutes at their own pace in the fresh air with friends.

Start-Rite will donate 10 per cent of profits from every sale of the exclusive school shoes to The Daily Mile, to help all children, no matter their age, ability or personal circumstances, enjoy getting active every day.

The Encourage and Motivate shoes have been designed to enable all children to move freely with adequate support for every mile. These robust styles are packed with the best Start-Rite intelligence, from Air Rite technology to biomechanic soles, reflective tabs, toe and heel bumpers, padded ankles, dyed through leather and adjustable rip-tape fastenings. The school shoes offer the very best from Start-Rite and will perform best when put to the test!

A classic T-bar style with embroidered bow detail, Encourage (see here) comes in S9-L2 with FG width fittings and Motivate (see here), a trainer style featuring a double rip-tape fastening comes in S9-L2 FG. Both shoes are presented with co-branded sole and box with an RRP of £48.00 and £50.00 respectively, and will be available both online and on the high street through Start-Rite’s extensive network of retail partners.

The Daily Mile (Reg Charity 1166911)

The Daily Mile was first developed by Elaine Wyllie MBE when she was Headteacher of St Ninian’s Primary School in Stirling, in February 2012. Since 2016, The Daily Mile Foundation has been supported by INEOS, which has enabled the free initiative to grow globally helping millions of children to get active every day.

The initiative is simple – but can be transformational to children’s health and wellbeing. It involves classes heading outside to jog or run around the school grounds for 15-minutes every day, at whatever pace suits the child best. It gets children active with their friends and teachers and refreshed for further learning. The Daily Mile is free, fun and fits in the school day easily.

Though named “The Daily Mile” (as children tend to average running a mile in the 15-minutes), the distance isn’t compulsory, and the ethos of the scheme is of inclusivity, enjoyment, and self-improvement over time. The Daily Mile is intended to help all children, no matter their age, ability or personal circumstances, enjoy getting active every day – getting fitter and healthier now, but also developing healthy habits for a lifetime.
