The RHS Flower Show Wentworth Woodhouse is celebrating its first year with some special guests all the way from Wimbledon Common…

From Wednesday 16th to Sunday 20th July, the South Yorkshire show promises spectacular gardens and family fun in equal measure - with an interactive Family Trail hosted by beloved children’s characters, The Wombles.

Famed for ‘making good use of bad rubbish’ and helping the planet one small step at a time, The Wombles’ themed trail will share eco-friendly tips and lead visitors to uncover the story of each of The Wombles through a set of clues.

Following a successful debut at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival earlier this month, the Family Trail offers engaging activities and memorable moments.

Visitors will even have the chance to meet a Womble in real life, with Madame Cholet appearing in costume to greet attendees.

Elsewhere in the region, The Wombles are unveiling ‘Womble Mania’, their first-ever interactive retrospective exhibition at Derbyshire attraction, The Heights of Abraham this weekend.

Alex Treharne, Creative Director at The Wombles, said: “This summer has been really special for us, with so many exciting activities in the calendar. The best part is that we’re helping a new generation discover The Wombles message of taking care of the natural world and being kind to one another. It’s wonderful to see families engaging with the stories and values that have inspired so many over the years.”

    About The Wombles

The Wombles are small, furry creatures who live in hidden burrows and care deeply about the environment. From their home on Wimbledon Common, they collect rubbish, repurpose what they find, and show that small actions can lead to meaningful change.

Guided by the wise Great Uncle Bulgaria, each Womble brings something special. Alderney is bold and adventurous, Wellington is a brilliant young tech-whizz, and Orinoco is kind-hearted, if often a little sleepy. Tobermory can fix almost anything, and Madame Cholet brings warmth, wisdom and delicious cooking to the burrow. Together, they face challenges with humour, curiosity and care, because being a Womble means trying your best and never giving up.
