A Brush with Brilliance: Roy Lichtenstein's 100th Birthday Gala at ALBERTINA Museum, Vienna

Read Time: 2 mins

To celebrate the 100th birthday of the legendary Pop Art master Roy Lichtenstein, the ALBERTINA Museum in Vienna proudly presents a monumental retrospective that promises to be a fitting tribute to his remarkable artistic achievements. The exhibition, in collaboration with the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation and Estate, is running from now until 14th July 2024, bringing together over 90 paintings, sculptures, and prints from international institutions, including New York's Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum.

Celebrating a Pop Art Icon

Roy Lichtenstein, a founding figure of Pop Art alongside Andy Warhol, is renowned for his stereotyped blondes, war heroes, and comic book-inspired works. The exhibition starts in the '60s, with early classics like Look Mickey, traversing through his influential black-and-white paintings, enamel landscapes, and pieces inspired by artists like Picasso and Dalí. The gigantic Brushstroke sculpture is a standout feature, symbolising Lichtenstein's artistic prowess.

The exhibition was made possible thanks to a collaboration between the ALBERTINA Museum and the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation. The latter generously donated around 100 works to the exhibition.
