As HBO's Harry Potter reboot reignites interest, here's where fans can stay near the real filming locations, old and new

As the trailer for the new HBO series landed last week, UK Google searches for "Harry Potter HBO" are up 1,702% compared to the previous month, with searches for "Harry Potter locations" up 257% over the same period.  

With Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone now confirmed for a Christmas Day release, outdoor accommodation site Pitchup.com has rounded up the real UK locations behind the original film franchise, and the places to stay within easy reach of each one.

The new series is filmed largely at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, but the beauty spots that gave the original eight films their look are still very much open to visit, and staying nearby is a simple, affordable way to do it.

Now there's a shepherd's hut with a woodburner ten minutes from Hogsmeade Station and a glamping pod on the Fort William road to the viaduct, so seeing the real Wizarding World doesn't mean compromising on comfort." 

Confirmed HBO Harry Potter series filming locations

Locations below are those reported or confirmed as used in production of the HBO series; all other sites are original-film locations.

Cadgwith, Cornwall 

This working fishing village on the Lizard Peninsula was used for filming in October 2025, with local reporting linking it to coastal scenes around the Dursleys, including their retreat to a "hut on the rock" to escape the flood of Hogwarts letters. Cadgwith is a tiny, still-active harbour hamlet of thatched cottages tumbling down to a sheltered cove, largely untouched by tourism outside its own quiet charm. Fans won't find a set to visit, but they will find one of Cornwall's most unspoiled coastal villages, with the South West Coast Path running past it towards Kynance Cove and Lizard Point.

Carnglaze Caverns, Bodmin Moor

Confirmed as a Harry Potter TV series shooting location, these atmospheric slate caverns on the edge of Bodmin Moor were used for underground magical sequences. The caverns already host concerts and events in their vast chambers, and visitors can book a guided tour, set alongside ancient woodland and moorland walking trails.

Pitchup recommends staying at: Mena Farm, a family-run camping site with dark skies for stargazing near Bodmin. Pitches from £20 per night. 

Ashridge Estate, Hertfordshire 

Reported as a filming location for the HBO series, this National Trust woodland estate on the edge of the Chiltern Hills was used for outdoor scenes with a magical-forest feel. Ashridge covers 5,000 acres of ancient beechwood and chalk downland, with Ivinghoe Beacon offering sweeping views back across the estate. It sits a short drive from Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden itself, where the interior Hogwarts and Diagon Alley sets were built.

For longstanding fans: a few locations from the original films

Alnwick Castle, Northumberland 

Alnwick Castle doubled as the exterior of Hogwarts in the first two films, including Harry's first flying lesson and the Quidditch training scenes. It remains a working castle open to visitors, with its own broomstick-training sessions run for fans.

Pitchup recommends staying at: Old Rectory, a luxury glamping site in the grounds of a Georgian country house near Howick. Bell tents from £100 per night, shepherd's huts from £110. 

Glenfinnan Viaduct, Scottish Highlands 

The 21-arch viaduct that carries the Jacobite steam train, the inspiration for the Hogwarts Express route, is one of the most photographed spots in the franchise. It's viewable from the Glenfinnan Monument visitor centre, or from the train itself when it runs between Fort William and Mallaig.

Goathland, North York Moors 

Goathland's railway station doubled as Hogsmeade Station throughout the franchise, and remains one of the most visited sites for fans of the films. It's a working station on the heritage North Yorkshire Moors Railway, so visitors can arrive by steam train rather than car.
