Bathrooms look set to welcome comfort, character and a little everyday luxury in 2027.
That’s according to British bathroom brand Royal Bathrooms, who say the new year will bring a shift in how we approach bathroom design.
From furniture-inspired vanity units and rich, cocooning colours to spa-style showers and softer, more natural finishes, the coming year promises plenty of inspiration for homeowners planning a bathroom makeover.
Waleed Shahid, Digital Marketing Manager at Royal Bathrooms, said: “Bathrooms have traditionally been designed with practicality first, but we're seeing a real change in how people approach these spaces.
“Homeowners want bathrooms that feel comfortable, personal and luxurious, but they also need to work for everyday life.
“In 2027, I think we'll see a move towards designs that combine those two things beautifully. It's about creating a space that feels special without sacrificing practicality, and the good news is that you don't necessarily need a huge bathroom or a huge budget to achieve it.”
Here Waleed shares his top four bathroom trend predictions for 2027.
TREND ONE: WARM MINIMALISM
Minimalism isn't going anywhere in 2027, but the stark white bathrooms and cool grey finishes of previous years are giving way to something softer and more inviting.
Expect to see warm neutrals, natural textures and gently curved designs taking centre stage as homeowners embrace a more relaxed approach to contemporary bathroom design.
Waleed said: “Minimalist bathrooms have always been popular because they create a sense of calm and order, but they can sometimes feel a little cold.
“In 2027, I think we'll see homeowners embracing a warmer version of minimalism, with shades such as oatmeal, cream, taupe and soft beige replacing brilliant whites and cool greys.
“The secret is to introduce different textures and finishes so the space feels layered rather than plain. A wood-effect vanity unit, warm stone-effect tiles and softly rounded bathroom furniture can make a huge difference.
“You don't need to replace everything either. Even changing a stark white vanity unit for a warmer wood-effect finish, or introducing a new mirror and softer lighting, can help create a more welcoming space.”
TREND TWO: BATHROOM FURNITURE TAKES CENTRE STAGE
Bathroom storage is getting a stylish makeover, with vanity units increasingly becoming a focal point rather than simply somewhere to hide toiletries.
In 2027, expect to see furniture-inspired designs, statement finishes and wall-hung units bringing the sophistication of living room furniture into the bathroom.
Waleed said: “We're seeing bathrooms become much more considered in terms of their overall design, and vanity units are a brilliant way to introduce personality.
“Rather than treating storage as an afterthought, homeowners are choosing vanity units that make a statement, whether that's through a rich wood-effect finish, a beautiful colour or a sleek, contemporary silhouette.
“Wall-hung vanity units are particularly useful because they create a feeling of openness by keeping more of the floor visible. They're a great option for smaller bathrooms where every centimetre counts.
“My advice would be to think carefully about storage before choosing your unit. Drawers can be particularly practical for keeping everyday essentials organised, while a countertop basin can give a vanity unit a more furniture-like appearance.
“It's about choosing something that looks beautiful but also makes the bathroom easier to live with.”
TREND THREE: THE EVERYDAY SPA
The desire to turn bathrooms into relaxing retreats is set to continue into 2027, but the emphasis is shifting towards creating a luxurious experience without the need for an enormous space or expensive renovation.
Walk-in showers, rainfall showerheads, streamlined screens and thoughtful lighting are helping homeowners bring a little hotel-style luxury into everyday routines.
Waleed said: “Not everyone has the space for a freestanding bath, but that doesn't mean they can't create a bathroom that feels luxurious.
“I think we'll see more homeowners investing in their shower areas in 2027, transforming what is often a purely functional part of the bathroom into somewhere they can really relax.
“A generous rainfall showerhead, a simple glass screen and carefully chosen finishes can all help create that spa-inspired look.
“Walk-in showers are particularly effective because they create a more open feel and reduce visual clutter. But it's important to consider practicalities such as drainage, waterproofing and how water will be contained.
“For a more affordable update, consider replacing an old showerhead, adding a stylish shower screen or introducing warm lighting. Small changes can make your daily routine feel that little bit more indulgent.”
TREND FOUR: COLOUR GETS CONFIDENT
After years of white, grey and neutral bathroom schemes, 2027 is set to welcome a richer and more expressive approach to colour.
Deep greens, earthy terracottas, warm browns and muted burgundy tones are predicted to bring warmth and individuality to bathrooms, creating spaces that feel cosy, characterful and full of personality.
Waleed said: “I think homeowners are becoming more confident about using colour in bathrooms, particularly deeper, richer shades that make a space feel inviting.
“Bathrooms are often quite small rooms, which actually makes them a brilliant place to experiment with colour. A deep green vanity unit or a richly coloured feature wall can completely transform the atmosphere without overwhelming the space.
“Rather than using lots of competing colours, I'd recommend choosing one dominant shade and building the scheme around it.
“Deep green works beautifully with warm wood and brass-effect finishes, while terracotta and earthy browns can look stunning alongside cream tiles and simple white sanitaryware.
“And if you're nervous about committing to a bold colour, start with a vanity unit or accessories rather than changing every surface. It's a simple way to introduce personality while keeping the overall scheme timeless.”
