Graco supports Brake Charity’s Road Safety Week 2024 with 'Safety Within' campaign

Graco, the experts in child car seats and long-term official supporter to Brake charity, is promoting Brake’s ‘Road Safety Week 2024’ with the campaign, ‘Safety Within’: a week-long interactive campaign on Graco’s Instagram page, signposting parents and carers to help and advice.

Brake is dedicated to making local communities safer and supporting people affected by road traffic accidents. The charity reports that 1,695 people died on UK roads in 2023, with a total of 28,967 road injuries and according to their data, there has been no significant change in the number of injuries in the past five years.

Insurers¹ claim that road accidents peak around three o’clock in the afternoon and ‘distraction’ is most often cited as the root cause. The afternoon rush hour, with drivers hurrying to get home amid a surge of pedestrians, school pick-up, children distracting the driver, and drivers being less alert in the afternoon than in the morning are all plausible reasons why more accidents happen mid-afternoon on UK roads. Another worrying statistic is that most road traffic accidents occur within a 10-mile radius of the home, and experts suggest, ‘driving on autopilot in a familiar setting’ is a strong indication as to why this happens.

Given that 87% of parents have told Graco that safety in the car is their biggest priority², Graco is determined to play a part in changing these statistics. The ‘Safety Within’ campaign is designed to help parents give their children the safest car journeys possible, by mitigating risk and being more alert to dangers. During Road Safety Week (17-23 Nov), Graco’s Instagram page will become an interactive hub for tips and advice.

Graco will be offering guidance on road safety topics such as: managing your nerves on the very first car trip with your baby; strategies to keep older kids in appropriate car seats for their age and size, managing distractions inside the car, and teaching early safety awareness for children.

The ’Safety Within’ campaign will also be supported by Graco’s network of parenting influencers. Additionally, Graco will provide parents with further counsel on the R129 car seat standard, including the required checks to be sure their child’s seat is suitable based on their height, age and development.
