SECUTIX Trials Blockchain Ticket Authentication

SECUTIX will test cryptographic proof of ticket authenticity to combat fraud in the live events industry using Hedera DLT Network, in partnership with The Hashgraph Group and with support of The Hashgraph Association.

SECUTIX, a leading global provider of advanced ticketing and engagement solutions, today announces plans to trial blockchain technology that will give fans and organisers an easy, face-to-face method for verifying ticket authenticity. This cryptographic proof can be accessed directly from their ticket app at any time before, during, or after an event.

The innovation has been developed in partnership with The Hashgraph Group, the Swiss-based leading Web3 and AI technology engineering company. It marks a significant advancement in the live events industry by introducing scalable, blockchain-based verification of ticket authenticity.

This summer, a mass-scale production pilot will take place at a major European music festival, supported by a grant from The Hashgraph Association, a Swiss-based non-profit organisation that promotes the global adoption of Hedera-powered solutions.

The problems this initiative targets are rare but devastating for the fans they hit, and until now, those fans have had no recourse. The trial focuses on two cases.

The first is last-minute, face-to-face resale: a fan buys a spare ticket from a stranger outside the venue, with no reliable way to know it is genuine. Proof of authenticity lets them verify it on the spot, before committing to a risky, unsanctioned purchase.

The second is the fan's worst nightmare: somewhere along a ticket's chain of custody, its access-control code is copied and sold as a counterfeit. The genuine fan, who may have travelled across the world for this event, is turned away at the gate because an identical code has already been scanned. For the first time in ticketing history, this can be resolved because authenticity is recorded in a decentralised, cryptographically secure and mathematically provable way. When two tickets claim the same seat, the genuine one can be identified in seconds.

Proof of authenticity sits within a registry separate from the ticketing platform. Whenever a valid ticket is issued, SECUTIX generates a digital certificate, pairing it with a unique token on Hedera Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), which allows the ticket's authenticity to be checked alongside the ticketing platform. This means the blockchain layer operates without disrupting day-to-day ticketing operations. A ticket’s authenticity can be easily verified at any time using a smartphone.

Rafa Jimenez, Vice President of Digital Innovation at SECUTIX, said: "This innovation complements our existing secure mobile technology and aligns with our wider vision of protecting ticketing for true fans. We’re really excited about what this means for fans. For the first time, you can prove a ticket is genuine before you pay someone outside a venue, and if you're wrongly stopped at the gate, you can prove your ticket is the real one and walk in. Rolling this out could bring transparency and trust back to ticketing, and it's only the beginning. In time, the same proof could be extended to 3rd-party online resale portals, so that a ticket can't even be posted unless its authenticity has been verified. It means buyers will finally know whether the ticket behind a listing is real before they purchase online. This is the real game changer for the industry.”
Kamal Youssefi, President of The Hashgraph Association, added: "The live events industry has dealt with a ticketing trust problem for decades. Utilising the Hedera network and solutions offered by The Hashgraph Group, we can seamlessly slot into existing infrastructure without asking anyone to rethink how they operate. SECUTIX processes tens of millions of tickets a year, and they're opting for Hedera because the technology is designed to ensure trust for decentralised applications and Web3 solutions, from pioneering startups to innovative enterprises and leading global corporates, without compromise"
