26 May, Kent: Hangloose Adventure Bluewater has officially launched its ‘Nothing but Water’ swim - a nude open-water swimming experience that’s already making waves amongst wild swimming enthusiasts.
This month nearly 20 people bared all at the debut evening event with a further 10 already signed up to take part in June.
The launch comes as interest in open water swimming shows rapid growth across the UK, more than doubling from around 266,000 adults in 2016-17 to 543,000 adults in 2023-24.
Many are drawn to its widely recognised benefits, from boosting mood and reducing stress to improving recovery and overall wellbeing, while getting naked adds that ultimate sense of freedom in the water.
Brian Phelps, Managing Director of Hangloose Adventure, said: Our monthly evening nude swims are set in Bluewater’s striking chalky quarry lake - a stone’s throw from the Bluewater Shopping Centre. It’s a chance for swimmers to strip away the distractions of modern life and reconnect with nature.”
Designed for mindfulness, wellness, and to offer a physical challenge, the swim offers 150m and 250m routes for both seasoned open-water swimmers and confident newcomers.
Philip Wilde, from Kent, shares his experience of the Nothing but Water swim: “I was really surprised by the experience, it felt laidback and completely natural. What struck me was that no one seemed embarrassed, we were all just swimming and enjoying ourselves. It was a lovely evening - I’m already planning to book the rest of the sessions and bring some friends along too.”
Phelps adds: “There’s a growing demand for experiences that prioritise both mental and physical wellbeing, and we’re proud to be offering something that addresses both needs. From our naked swim through to our guided floating sound bath and sauna sessions, we’re giving people the chance to unwind, and experience deep relaxation and mental clarity in a safe and secure setting.
“It’s all about delivering unforgettable experiences. Whether guests are seeking a one off day for wellness or moments of calm or to sign up for all year round membership benefits, our Bluewater Lake and Leisure location brings it all together in one place, offering a full day out designed to relax the body and quiet the mind.”
The next Nothing but Water swimming session is on 17 June. To purchase a ticket or to find out more, visit https://bookings.hangloosebluewater.com/book/events/product/nothing-but-water-swim/859.
