Rich, enveloping tones inspired by nature are set to be a defining influence across interior and exterior design this autumn.

According to eco paint brand Thorndown, the seasonal shift towards colder, darker months is encouraging homeowners to embrace comforting colours that help spaces feel warm, grounded and cocooning.

Deep burgundy and luscious greens will bring a bold sense of luxury to both homes and gardens, while rich truffle browns will provide a calm, earthy foundation. Dark teal blues are also expected to remain popular for creating sophisticated, soothing schemes, with rustic dusty pinks adding a softer, more relaxed contrast.

Caroline Thornborough, Design Director of Thorndown, said: “Autumn naturally encourages us to slow down, retreat indoors and create spaces that feel warm, comforting and protective. As nature prepares for the colder months, many homeowners are looking to do the same within their homes and gardens, choosing colours, finishes and materials that bring a sense of calm and reassurance.

“This season, we expect to see a continued move away from short-lived trends and towards more considered design choices. With the cost of living still shaping how people spend, there is a growing appetite for products that offer real longevity, both in terms of style and performance.

“Classic, nature-led colours and durable, environmentally conscious materials are becoming increasingly important. Homeowners want schemes that feel beautiful now, but will still feel relevant in ten or twenty years’ time. It is less about throwaway decorating and more about creating timeless spaces that work hard, last well and feel good to live with.”

Complementing the move towards dark, rich colour palettes, Caroline expects to see homeowners embrace luxurious lighting, deep, comfortable sofas and sumptuous accessories in decadent jewel tones.

Caroline added: “Homeowners looking to embrace a new look in autumn should look to create a complete mood by softening darker schemes with key accessories that make them feel warm, inviting and beautifully layered.”

Thorndown’s range of wall and wood paint is available now, priced at £24 for 750ml.
