Eurest, one of the UK’s leading workplace caterers and part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, and Heathrow Airport have won ‘Health & Wellbeing Initiative of the Year’ at the Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) + Hospitality Awards 2023.

The Health & Wellbeing Initiative of the Year was awarded to Eurest in recognition of its role in mobilising Heathrow Airport’s ambitious free food scheme to support the airport’s colleagues over the winter through the cost-of-living crisis.

The scheme aimed to provide each colleague access to a daily free meal and free hot drink, and it promoted the initiative widely amongst 6,000 Heathrow colleagues, with an impressive 93% take-up. For its part Eurest mobilised the scheme in just four weeks, and successfully served 686,000 free nourishing meals and 6,000 free Christmas lunches!

Organised by the Moodie Davitt Report and regarded as a mark of excellence that demonstrates commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences, the prestigious FAB awards attract entries from airports, concessionaires and brands from all over the world.

This year’s winners were announced at a glittering ceremony culminating the Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) + Hospitality Conference & Awards 2023 at the Millenium Hilton Bangkok in Thailand.

Fraser Brown, Retail Director, Heathrow said: “I am thrilled that the collaboration between Eurest and Heathrow to bring the winter free food initiative to life has been recognised at the Airport FAB awards.

“Colleagues are at the heart of everything we do at Heathrow, delivering our vision of giving passengers the best airport service in the world. I am proud Heathrow stepped up to support our colleagues through a challenging time.”

Morag Freathy, Eurest’s managing director, said: “This was a truly fantastic initiative conceived by Heathrow to give a little something back to its hardworking colleagues. We had just four weeks to mobilise it, and I’m proud to say our teams rose to the challenge.

“Heathrow sees its colleagues as the lifeblood of its airport and values them immensely, so we were proud to be a part of bringing its ambitious vision to life. Thank you and congratulations to everyone in the teams at Heathrow and Eurest that pulled together to make this initiative such a success.”

Eurest has been no stranger to awards this year, recently being crowned the winner of the Sustainability in Labelling at the 2023 Footprint Awards and Morag Freathy personally taking home the Foodservice Caterer Award at the 2023 Cateys.
