A north-eastern castle hotel is staging a murder mystery event on June 14 and arranging a special accommodation package for anyone wanting to test their little grey cells.
Medieval Langley Castle, located near Hexham in Northumberland, is offering wannabe Poirots and Marples a room for two in its Castle View accommodation in the grounds, for a price of £290. This is inclusive of tickets to the murder mystery evening, a welcome drink on arrival, a three-course meal and then a hearty Northumbrian breakfast the following morning.
The Murder on the Dance Floor murder mystery evening can also be attended without the accommodation and breakfast package, at a ticket price of £62.50 per person. This still includes the welcome drink and three-course meal.
An evening of tracking down clues and identifying the villain should provide something different for Brits to do, if the hotel’s independently commissioned research survey is accurate. It found that only one-in-ten Brits has ever attended a murder mystery evening but that there is a big North-South divide. Whilst 18% in the East of England and 17% in the South East have sleuthed the night away, that falls to 2% in the North West, none in the North East and only 5% in Scotland.
With the plot set in the unique setting of the authentic castle, built in 1350 and with seven-feet-thick walls that will closely guard the murderer’s identity, it should be a unique way to experience Langley Castle.
If you’re not one of those ‘whodunnit’ in the past, and you have the means, motive and opportunity to put that right, head to www.langleycastle.co.uk to view the menu and call the hotel on 01434 688888 to book.
Notes to editors:
Research survey conducted on behalf of Langley Castle by Censuswide, in May 2025. 1000 adults from all demographics and regions of the UK were surveyed.

Langley Castle, built in 1350, is located in Langley-on-Tyne, Northumberland and is one of the few authentic, fortified medieval castles in England. It has a rich history, with strong links to Jacobite rebellions, is located just a stone's throw from the World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall and boasts features including battlements, seven-feet-thick walls, window seats set into the walls and the best example of medieval garderobes in Europe. It is one of the most exquisite wedding venues in the north and also offers a wide range of options when it comes to exclusive use, with the castle being available for weddings, family celebrations, Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs, D&D-style events and a wide variety of corporate functions.
