Children visiting Levens Hall and Gardens will be all ears this Easter but will need to use their eyes wisely. Meanwhile, adults can channel their inner artistry or sense of nostalgia.
It’s all part of an action-packed Easter events programme at the Elizabethan South Lakes visitor attraction, home to the world’s oldest topiary garden. Family fun, freebies, workshops and a classic car rally are set to give Cumbria’s Small Visitor Attraction of the Year a great start to the season.
All children arriving at the Levens Hall and Gardens entrance kiosk will receive a pair of bunny ears that will equip them well, before they hop off on a Scavenger Hunt around the extensive gardens. This will not be the only challenge they can take on. Small and beautifully painted wooden eggs are also hidden on an Egg Hunt around the house, so they need to be eagle-eyed and ready to seek them out throughout their house visit.
Could they be resting on Napoleon’s Arabian saddle, or perhaps near one of the wonderful clocks? Maybe they are on the Duke of Wellington’s campaign bed, or camouflaged by the oldest English patchwork in the country?
These Easter trails will be available between April 12 and April 21 and there will be no extra charges over and above the usual ticket price. The Scavenger Hunt is on offer to those visiting the gardens, whilst both trails can be accessed by children visiting both House and Garden. Children will be rewarded with a small Easter treat as a thank you for visiting.
On April 15, 18, 19 and 20, it will be paintbrushes at the ready and creativity ready to go as Family Easter Egg Painting and Bunny Decorating takes place between 10am and noon. This costs £20.
On April 19, there will also be a Family Easter Topiary Making and Painting art class, running between 2pm and 5pm, for a small charge of £25.
Easter Sunday, on April 20, will see the arrival of the Lakeland Historic Car Club, for a rally at Levens Hall and Gardens that will see all classic car lovers taking a wonderful spin down memory lane. Checking out some historic marques, aged between 25 and 100 years old, will be the ideal day out for petrol heads and car aficionados alike. The rally will start at 1pm and end at 4.30pm and will be included within the general admission price.
Then, April 21 will present the opportunity for cake lovers to indulge themselves and their calorie intake. A Cupcake Decorating with Mireia workshop will be just the thing to make Easter Monday zing. The classes costs £20 and are suitable for adults and children alike.
“Levens Hall and Gardens is open for seven days a week in 2025, so we are making the very most of that new opportunity and creating many reasons for people to visit,” says owner, Richard Bagot.
“We hope to see many families, creatives, food lovers and car enthusiasts over the Easter break.”
Tickets for Hall and Gardens admission in 2025 cost £16.45 for an adult, £5.50 for a child and £41 for a family of two adults and up to three children aged 5-16. Gardens-only admission is £12.45, £4.50 and £31 respectively. Tickets can be bought in advance at www.levenshall.co.uk or at the entrance kiosk, on arrival.
The Gardens are open from 10am to 5pm and the House from 11am to 3.30pm. Last entry is at 4pm and 3pm respectively.
