New programme is supported with a freely accessible white paper showcasing diversity and best practice of philanthropic models in travel and tourism

5th October 2023: The Conscious Travel Foundation has announced the launch of their new Philanthropy Strategy and Framework. The Framework has been created in collaboration with Caliopy Glaros, Founder of Philanthropy Without Borders, an organisation that specialises in philanthropy, strategy, storytelling, and donor travel.

Founded in 2020, The Conscious Travel Foundation is a non-profit membership organisation that promotes sustainable, positive impact travel. Through education, collaboration and thought leadership, the Foundation empowers its members to make changes in their organisations, whilst supporting grassroots projects around the world through their grant-making programme.

The Foundation’s newly-developed Community Impact Fund now offers a comprehensive award, spanning three years and comprising a 3-year grant, membership benefits, and vital networking support, all aimed at ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of these projects. The Foundation's approach champions grassroots initiatives worldwide, emphasising their potential to generate income through tourism activities - and are nominated by members and chosen by a Philanthropy Committee.

Olivia Cryer and Maudie Tomlinson, founders of The Conscious Travel Foundation said: “Philanthropy is one of the key pillars of The Conscious Travel Foundation, to support projects linked to tourism that make a tangible difference to local communities and the environment. As the Foundation is rapidly growing, we recognised our responsibility to create a robust framework and strategy through which to channel our grant-making.”

In conjunction with developing and launching their own revised Philanthropy Framework, the Foundation has created a freely accessible white paper, Navigating The Landscape: Models of Philanthropy in Travel and Tourism. The study encompassed 45 organisations with distinctive methods of programme structures, funding distribution, project selection, and impact assessment.

Olivia and Maudie added: “We hope this report provides fellow travel businesses with ideas and tools to navigate and develop their own philanthropic strategy”

“There is no one right way to do the right thing,” Caliopy Glaros, founder of Philanthropy Without Borders concluded. “The tourism sector, with its exceptional ability to connect people across cultures and deliver life-changing experiences, has a profound responsibility to ensure our impact is positive, equitable, and enduring.”
