If you’re a health and fitness fanatic, you’ve probably seen TikTok videos of people plunging into a bath of ice water in recent months. Why? Cold water therapy has many associated health benefits, from soothing sore muscles to promoting the normal function of the immune system. However, these benefits are only amplified by taking the concept outdoors.
Sensoria’s wellness expert, Marion Sattler, explains: “Cold water therapy in the form of wild swimming not only gives us that icy hit of cold water to boost the body’s natural function, but being in the great outdoors surrounded by beautiful mountainous scenery boosts our overall wellbeing, too. Due to a sudden surge in endorphins and dopamine released after making the plunge, it’s a natural way to reduce stress and put you in a good mood.
Not only this but taking the dive into natural cold water can increase your metabolism and reduce inflammation, whilst being a natural form of pain relief. It also activates your cardiovascular system and strengthens muscles, making it is a calming oasis for our bodies and helps to avoid injuries after strenuous exercise.”
But, what makes Dolomite water better than your typical ice bath?
Marion Sattler, explains, “Dolomite water is some of the purest in the world, as it comes directly from the mountains. Taking a swim in the Italian lakes means you’re also breathing in fresh mountain air, which is known to boost the immune system and overall circulation. Taking to open water for a swim is also a great form of exercise for all ages, with all parts of your body working hard. You can’t get this from a small tub in the garden.
“What makes the Dolomites even more of a wellness haven for the body and mind, also comes down to the stone that defines this area of Northern Italy. The spiritual Dolomite stone is a mineral composed of calcium and magnesium carbonate. Often known as the ‘herb’ of the world’s rocks, it’s used in crystal heeling for strengthening bones, muscles and organs, whilst balancing your emotions, eliciting energy and feelings of confidence, comfort and ease.
“Of course, wild swimming is not for everyone, so consider your own health before making the decision to take the plunge. Dress up warm, and most importantly, embrace the fun and natural mood booster!”.
