Mannings Heath Estate near Horsham in West Sussex has opened a new wine lounge and Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant. The stylish and welcoming spaces offer guests a unique dining experience, says estate managing director Barry Anderson. There are options for lunch and afternoon tea, including a range of food and wine pairings featuring wines from Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in South Africa.
Penny Streeter OBE is the owner of the Benguela Collection wine and hospitality group, which includes Mannings Heath Estate and Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens, as well as the Benguela Cove vineyards. Since acquiring the vineyard estate, near Cape Town, in 2013, she has transformed it into an award-winning wine producer and hospitality venue, with its breathtaking location on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.
The wine lounge is the UK cellar door of Benguela Cove wines, says Barry Anderson, which have achieved major accolades recently. They include three 5-star awards and ten 4.5-star awards in the prestigious Platter's 2023 South Africa Wine Guide. Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 earned a 5-star rating, while Vinography Petit Verdot 2020 and Vinography Sémillon Sauvignon Blanc 2021 achieved 'Best in Class' in their categories for South African wines.
The estate owner has carried the wine theme throughout the new dining areas at Mannings Heath. The new venue caters to a range of clientele and events, including birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, hen parties, corporate entertainment, weddings, and small to medium sized meetings.
The Wine Lounge can accommodate 24 guests, and the Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant seats up to 50, with comfortable sofa seating available in both areas. Barry Anderson says:
“The Wine Lounge features a décor that’s luxurious, cool and fun, while the Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant has a relaxing, bright and light atmosphere with beautiful views. Both spaces are available for private hire during the daytime or evening, seven days a week.
“Mannings Heath Estate prides itself on being accessible to all, with reasonable prices, dog and child-friendly environments, ample free parking, and a location less than 10 minutes from Horsham station and the town centre. Guests can enjoy beautiful walks in the nearby woodlands and bridle pathways.”
The Wine Lounge is open Wednesday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a tasting menu available with pre-booking. The Vineyard Kitchen is open during the same hours, offering breakfast/brunch, lunch and afternoon tea.
Programme of Events
The estate features a year-round programme of entertainment that is open to all. This includes a new live music series, Soundscapes of Summer; on 13th May the Haywood Sisters will perform classic hits from girl groups such as The Shirelles, The Andrews Sisters, and The Ronettes.
On Father's Day on 18th June, the Soundscapes series features a BBQ on the estate's extensive terraces and live music from a local acoustic guitarist. Then, Rock'n'Roll Jukebox with Danny Fisher performs on 29th July, and The Violet Jives, on 13th August, a Retro Swing-Latin-Rock'n'Roll band.
From 1st June to 30th November, visitors to the estate can enjoy Sensory Wine and Dine Evenings with five wines and a five-course dinner pairing on selected dates.
Apart from its outstanding dining experiences, Mannings Heath Estate features the 18-hole Waterfall Golf Course and a 9-hole Kingfisher Course, both offering exciting challenges for golfers of all abilities. The Spike Bar is open seven days a week with a tasty gastropub-style menu and showing Sky Sports with all the key sporting events.
