Sustainable plant pot producer, elho, has moved another step closer to achieving its goal of being the first climate and socially-positive company in the market, after announcing it has reached a key milestone as all of its products will be made entirely from recycled plastic from January 2024.

Always striving to find new and innovative ways to turn waste into beauty, the company has increased the percentage of raw waste materials used during production from 96 percent to 100 percent.

Founded in 1964, the family business has sustainability firmly rooted in its DNA and is well-known throughout the industry for its stylish yet sustainable range of flower pots and plant care accessories.

Since 2019, elho has been proud to call itself a B Corp organisation, dedicated to making the world a more liveable, healthy and safe place for future generations, and in 2020, it also celebrated becoming the first European company to be awarded a Category A TÜV certification.

The announcement marks the latest milestone in the company’s pledge to make the world a greener place. Every elho product is made using renewable energy generated by the wind turbine located at its factory in Tilburg, the Netherlands, and is also fully recyclable.

Its second distribution centre, which opened in 2020, is the most circular in Europe, featuring light-sensitive, automatic LED lighting and solar panels contributing to the largest energy storage system in the Netherlands. It even has an electric bus to transport employees from one site to the other.

Earlier this year, elho also released its first impact report, revealing the significant steps it has taken to achieve a more sustainable future, including transforming 12 million kilograms of recycled waste into new products.

Olaf Elderenbosch, CEO of elho group, commented: “We are delighted to share the news that we have achieved our goal to produce all products entirely from recycled materials, truly epitomising our company ethos of ‘the beauty of waste.’

“elho’s sustainability strategy was mapped out in 2006, and since the first production using recycled plastics in 2008 we have reached many more milestones, such as achieving the B Corp status and TÜV Class A certificate. We hope that this next significant step will further inspire consumers to bring more nature into their lives and to encourage fellow businesses in the industry to be adopt more sustainable processes.”

The news coincides with the launch of elho’s latest innovations for 2024, which includes the new jazz round range, the expansion of its popular vibes fold line with specialist orchid pots, and the coffee collection – houseplant pots made from waste coffee grounds – among others.
