THE RISE OF SKILL-BASED TRAVEL:

CRAFT AND CONNECTION CURATED BY IT MALLORCA

  • In a screen-saturated world, skill-based travel is on the rise as an increasing number of travellers seek authentic, hands-on experiences
  • With IT Mallorca as a base, guests have access to traditional cooking classes at Moltak and authentic olive oil tastings in the Valldemossa countryside

13th August 2025: Scattered across the Mediterranean island, the It Mallorca hotels partner with locals from the cosmopolitan capital of Palma to the rural village of Valldemossa. With active and hands-on tourism currently trending and experiential travel expected to top $3.1 trillion by the end of 2025, the collection of six boutique properties invite guests to go beyond the turquoise calas and pine-fringed coastlines to connect with the handmade past and present of the island.

From artisanal workshops to traditional windmill cooking classes, guests are encouraged to try their hand at Mallorca’s enduring traditions, accessing a different kind of knowledge: one rooted in rhythm, care and memory. A stay at It Mallorca blends luxury and relaxation with connection to Mallorca's land and traditions - whether through its eclectic collection of local art or the authentic experiences they support.

Experience Culinary Traditions in the Heart of Palma:

Four of the It Mallorca hotels are located in the capital: Can Cera, Can Alomar, Calatrava and Sant Jaume placing travellers in the heart of the action.

  • The first hotel to open in the portfolio was Can Cera, set in a 17th-century palace that exudes luxury townhouse elegance with antique furnishings, stone arches, and a speak-easy style courtyard, where guests can enjoy locally produced eats and expertly-crafted cocktails.
  • Sant Jaume in Palma’s old town provides a peaceful family-friendly retreat (it’s the only It Mallorca hotel which isn’t adults only) with its jasmine-scented rooftop terrace, plunge pool, and views over the old town.
  • Can Alomar has an unbeatable location, tucked away at the crossroads of Palma's chicest street - Paseo del Borne. The hotel has a rooftop with 360° views, a plunge pool and a popular Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant known as De Tokio a Lima.
  • Calatrava is It Mallorca’s oceanfront property housed inside a 19th-century building with uninterrupted vistas of Palma Bay.

£££: Room-only rates at Can Cera and Can Alomar start from £282, at Calatrava rates start from £260, and at Sant Jaume rates start from £259. High-res images available to download for Can Cera HERE, Can Alomar HERE, Calatrava HERE and Sant Jaume HERE

WHAT TO DO:

A short stroll to the cobbled streets of Valldemossa, which was once described by nineteenth century composer, Frédéric Chopin, as “the most beautiful place in the world”, travellers can find the historic Son Moragues estate, once owned by Mallorca-loving Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria (1847–1915). SONMO is run as a sustainable farm supporting itself through the production and sale of organic olive oil, vegetables, and meat. Guided tours take visitors through the estate’s rolling groves of olive trees, some of which are upwards of 700 years old, winding up at a great stone water tank high in the hills, fed by freshwater springs and shaded by high trees. Here, travellers can enjoy immersive experiences including olive oil tastings and mountain picnics. Back in the town of Valldemossa, the SONMO shop sells high-quality extra-virgin olive oils in handmade bottles, candles, earth-toned ceramics and rugs from Mallorcan wool, all produced on the estate.

£££: A guided tour of the Son Moragues olive grove with an interactive olive oil tasting workshop and refreshments/tasting of Mallorcan jams/olives/breads/cheeses costs 95 EUR / £79 per person.

Editors notes

It Mallorca Unique Spaces is a brand of hotels, restaurants and luxury concierge that offer exceptional experiences. All buildings that house the hotels have had prior lives and the idea of adding new bricks to Mallorca seems totally absurd to Miguel Conde, owner of IT Mallorca. Calatrava, Sant Jaume and adults only escapes Can Cera and Can Alomar are nestled in Palma’s historical city centre and surrounded by Renaissance-era palaces and plazas. Adults-only retreat Can Aulí is location in Pollença’s photogenic Old Town and at the foot of the UNESCO listed Tramuntana mountain range. A passion for art and design is reflected in all properties. Many of the masterpieces that adorn the communal spaces and bedrooms are done by local artists specifically created to collaborate with the hotel and its surrounding. Each hotel has a space for relaxing and balancing body and mind offering a variety of treatments and rituals.
