Delivering critical passenger information when and where it’s needed

As international passenger numbers continue to build following the lifting of COVID travel restrictions, many UK airports are now focusing investment on delivering critical travel information that improves the overall customer experience. Adding credence to this was a Transport Focus Report in July 2021 that stated that information screens play an essential role in guiding customers on their journeys. 

We all use the internet for journey planning, whether that’s on a computer or a smartphone. However, many customers cannot envisage airports without information screens, the general assumption being that airports will have the latest information. As ubiquitous as mobile phones are, in the grand scheme of real-time digital information they are no substitute for Flight Information Displays (FIDs) at the airport itself.

The challenge for many airports is ensuring that FIDs are located in the right place to meet the demands of footfall as customers move through terminals. FID location is usually dictated by the built airport environment, such as wall or ceiling availability, as well as power. These locations are not always where the customers need a screen and they are completely reliant on the communications network.
