9th April 2024, UK: Marketplace from Zero Carbon Forum has officially launched the world’s first directory of pioneering sustainability products and services dedicated to helping reduce hospitality and brewing operators’ supply chain emissions.

A recent benchmark study by Zero Carbon Forum, a non-profit members organisation empowering the brewing and hospitality to reach sustainability targets at pace, revealed that Scope 3 emissions account for over 90% of overall emissions in the brewing and hospitality sectors. Now operators using Marketplace can quickly and easily source the latest innovations in carbon-reducing products and services to radially reduce emissions across all Scopes and reach net zero at pace.

Marketplace already connects 63 operators in over 35,000 sites to an extensive network of suppliers. Latest brands to join include Clearworld energy solutions, Kilmato carbon labelling for restaurants, Delphis Eco plant-based cleaning products, Brakes UK wholesale food supplier, and Circular11, which transforms plastic pollution into a material solution, amongst others.

Mark Chapman, CEO at Zero Carbon Forum said: “The brewing and hospitality sectors have some of the most complex supply chains with a wide range of suppliers from food, linen, to equipment, who may not have the same level of commitment to reducing emissions. They also often have limited control over their suppliers’ emissions from the transportation methods to the suppliers they use.

“As a non-profit collaborative group, we are helping the sector and our members to facilitate progress in this area, and to reach net zero at pace, through a measure, plan, reduce, approach. Through our detailed roadmaps, members can take actions to reduce Scope 3 emissions and now, through Marketplace, they can source the best in essential sustainable services and solutions that help accelerate the transformational change the industry needs to make.”

Mark added: “It’s essential to have a collaborative effort to tackle the challenge of reducing emissions across the value chain and this is why we conceived Marketplace. The platform has grown at such a rate, showing the need for such a service. We’re delighted to welcome so many new suppliers onto the directory, and look forward to continuing to receive many, many more applications if we’re to radically reduce emissions before it’s too late.”

Further suppliers to recently join Marketplace also include Emissis, specialists in reducing kWh consumption technology, True, a technology-led sustainability consulting and reporting business, Agrasta Ltd, a go-to marketplace for low carbon produce, and Footsteps, helping businesses grow in a compliant and sustainable way. These join a roster of well-known brands including Britvic & The London Essence Co, Mitsubishi Electric and Wildfarmed.

Companies can apply to supply on Marketplace here, where they will be validated to ensure products and services support net zero goals.

Zero Carbon Forum is a non-profit organisation which builds on 10 years of carbon reduction collaboration in the UK’s hospitality and Brewing sector. It enables members to reach their decarbonisation targets faster, more efficiently and more cost effectively than acting alone.

By combining expertise and resources the forum helps to identify all possible actions to decarbonise operations across tens of thousands of outlets and their supply chains.

Its members, which represent over 30% of the sector’s outlets, pledge to work collaboratively, by sharing carbon reduction plans and initiatives to make a commitment to net zero emissions by 2030 on their own operations and 2040 across their supply chain.

In October 2021 the Zero Carbon Forum published its publicly available roadmap for hospitality to achieve net zero carbon, closely followed by the launch of its Overnight Energy programme, a simple and impactful two-stage ‘10-minute’ shutdown process, combined with analytics from members’ energy smart meters to achieve substantial cost reductions and reduce emissions.

In April 2022 the forum launched a Carbon Calculator and Toolkit, developed in collaboration with UKHospitality, BBPA, and powered by Sky, which enables hospitality operators and brewers to calculate their carbon footprint and identify achievable key actions to reduce emissions.

In July 2023 the forum announced the launch of Marketplace,a new directory to connect and showcase innovative sustainable suppliers to hospitality and brewing operators.

Zero Carbon Forum is endorsed by government and backed by trade associations UK Hospitality and the British Beer and Pub Association. Members include leading UK and global hospitality organisations including Brewdog, Burger King UK, Côte Restaurant Group, Greene King, InterContinental Hotels (IHG) Hotels & Resorts, KFC, Nando's UK and IRE, Pizza Express and Revolution Bars.
