International Women's Month: Empowering Women in the Card Trading Community

In the world of trading cards, women have played pivotal roles as collectors, traders, artists, and entrepreneurs, shaping the landscape of this thriving community. Tara and Sam from She Scores Cards have continually demonstrated their dedication to promoting diversity within the card trading world.

Tara and Sam collect women's football cards, specialising in football, which they believe only became more widely available in 2022. Tara says, “As the rise in coverage and popularity of women’s sport, in particular football grows, I feel it’s important this is reflected in the sports card market. She Scores Cards are proud to be representing women in the hobby”.

Both women started collecting various items before cards, such as stickers, and even shoes, but found their interest drawn to women’s sports cards.

Sam says that a card’s value depends on two key areas, “the popularity of the player and the condition of the card.” Sam and Tara own various cards graded at a PSA 10, some feature personalised autographs of the players, and can be as rare as one of three in existence.

Tara started She Scores Cards after noticing a lack of women’s football cards. A friend empowered her to start selling the cards that she wanted to see herself, and one of her biggest supporters has been the London Card Show; “It’s important to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed. We always make sure there is a table for Tara and Sam at the show, as they are part of what makes The London Card Show so unique and diverse,” says founder, Harry Reynolds.

As the largest trading card show in Europe, it’s no surprise that the event unites such a diverse and fast-growing community, expanding from around 40 attendees in 2021 to over 4,000 in 2024. The London Card Show is set to return for its twelfth show across the weekend of the 11th and 12th May, with over 500 vendor tables featuring the likes of Pokémon, Football, Formula 1, Basketball, Yu-Gi-Oh, Lorcana, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece and more!
