The founder of World Topiary Day and home to the world’s oldest topiary garden, Levens Hall and Gardens, is aiming for a six-continent World Topiary Day celebration in 2023.
Ahead of the third World Topiary Day, to be staged on Sunday May 14, 2023, the Cumbrian-based heritage attraction is seeking to spread the love of topiary even further than in 2022.
Then, the event was celebrated in three continents, with over 50 gardens in total taking part, in countries such as the United States, Australia, France, Belgium, Portugal and Spain, as well as the UK.
Now, Levens Hall and Gardens is trying to seek out topiary gardens in Asia, Africa and South America, or individual topiary owners who wish to celebrate.
Other goals are to increase the number of European countries taking part, finding participants in countries such as The Netherlands, Italy and Austria for instance, and to encourage even more participation in the United States and Australia. Last year, US gardens that took part were Ladew Gardens and Longwood Gardens, whilst Merribee in Australia also participated.
The ultimate goal for World Topiary Day, however, is to have Disney participate, with topiary having been such a long-standing feature at its various parks.
To boost global participation, Levens Hall and Gardens has created World Topiary Day logos in French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese this year and is happy to create logos in other languages, if a garden requests one.
Owner of Levens Hall and Gardens, Richard Bagot, says, “We were overwhelmed to have so many gardens participating last year, but this year we want to spread the joy of topiary even further and allow many more people to understand and enjoy this gardening artform.
“By setting a 6-continent goal, we hope to see World Topiary Day celebrated across the globe, making our Guinness World Record-holding garden the hub of what is a truly vibrant worldwide event.”
Any garden or other individual or organisation wishing to participate in World Topiary Day can request logos and further information by contacting WTD@catapultpr.co.uk There are no rules as to what can be done, other than keeping Levens Hall and Gardens’ World Topiary Day team in the loop as to what is happening and using the hashtag #WorldTopiaryDay on social media posts.
Wherever you are in the world, if you wish to celebrate topiary with other enthusiasts and gardens, World Topiary Day is the vehicle. Find out more about the celebration at www.levenshall.co.uk
