A super-dog-friendly Northumberland castle hotel is offering its canine guests not just luxury shut-eye but a very special breakfast too - their very own ‘Poochy Déjeuner’.
In addition, it is giving the four-legged visitor the chance to enjoy true scents of place during a stay.
Langley Castle Hotel, located a short drive from Hexham and close to Hadrian’s Wall, absolutely adores its doggy visitors, so was not content with just giving them memories of a comfy dog bed and deep-felt cuddles on check-in.
Doggies staying at the truly authentic castle, built in 1350 and with many historical features still intact, can enjoy a glorious stopover in a Castle View suite, room or lodge, which comes with a brekkie treat second to none.
For their Poochy Déjeuner, they can enjoy a treat of Scrumptious Sausages and Scrambled Egg and be bowled over by their tasty tucker. They will also have a water bowl and lovely soft bed.
That all builds up the appetite for exploration around Langley’s 10-acre grounds, comprising lawns, riverside strolls and woodland adventures. To help ‘Fido’ gain real scents of place in this landscape, Langley Castle has put together a ‘7 Best Scents to Track Down’ list, so pet parents can literally lead their best pal to the very best sensory experiences.
Whether it’s a case of sniffing out conkers and rabbits under the horse chestnut trees close to the car park, or the bluebells close to the Woodland Weddings grove in spring, there’s much fun to be had for all involved. Actively gaining scents of place will soon shift any doggy calories that Poochy Déjeuner delivers.
A doggy stay at Langley Castle Hotel costs £25 for the four-legged visitor, whilst his or her two-legged companions can book a double room in Castle View from £149 per night. All the castle asks is that doggies are not left on their own in the room and are not allowed to climb on to or sleep on the room’s sofas or beds.

7 Best Scents for Doggies to Track Down at Langley Castle Hotel
1. Take your dog to the area under the trees by the car park and let them sniff out conkers and the scent of rabbits that run in and out of holes in the grass banks.
2. In Spring, lead them off to the area near to the Woodland Wedding grove and let them experience the joyous aroma of bluebells and wild garlic.
3. Your doggy will love to get on the trail of the scent of our resident peacocks, but do make sure that you don’t allow them to chase after them or upset them. Maybe let your pal have a good sniff once the peacocks have moved on somewhere else.
4. Head into our wooded areas and let your doggy enjoy the aromas of the bracken that you will find in many places.
5. There’s plenty of bark to bark about in the Langley grounds, so let your pooch enjoy the scent of the different tree trunks that you encounter. There’s a 0.7-mile walk around the grounds if you wish to keep this experience reasonably contained!
6. With so many trees, we naturally have plenty of squirrels who leave enticing scents all around our grounds. No doubt you may also see some scampering in the branches.
7. Head off on longer 3.5-mile, 8-mile or 11-mile walks, of which you can find details at Langley Castle’s reception, and you should find yourself alongside either the River Tyne or River Allen. Make sure you keep your dog on their lead, but let them enjoy the scents of waterside plants and mosses, if you can safely do so.
