  • Pupil power contributes over 6,130 hours of community support across local care homes, charity shops and schools
  • Students used their tech, music, art and drama skills to help the Warminster community

2 July 2025, Warminster, Wiltshire: Year 11-13 pupils at Warminster School contributed over 6,130 hours of community support this school year, from providing tech assistance in pop-up sessions at the Warminster Athenaeum, to helping residents at the Ashwood Care Centre Art Club.

Other weekly activities included supporting the Minster Primary School’s after-school Drama Club with reading scripts and helping at rehearsals, the school’s ‘Warminster Buskers’ providing musical sessions for elderly residents, and lending a hand at local charity shops, by sorting donations and labelling goods.

Comments Lisa Cook, Community Outreach Co-Ordinator, Warminster School: “Our pupils dedicate their time to making a meaningful difference through a variety of community projects. Whether it's running our tech club, visiting local groups, playing croquet, or volunteering in charity shops, they are committed to giving back.

“The tech club has been life-changing for many Warminster residents, empowering them to navigate essential tools like the NHS App and Parking App with confidence. What might seem like small acts have had a profound impact, offering reassurance and support to those who often feel overwhelmed by technology.”

Adds Matt Williams, Headmaster, Warminster School: “Well over a hundred of our pupils are engaged in community service every single week and I am very proud of what we offer. This school has been at the heart of the community of Warminster since 1707 and I feel that we are very much in a position to give back and really make a difference to the lives of the people around us.”

The school’s Tech Club also marked three years of community tech assistance. This school year, it has been holding pop-up sessions at the Athenaeum to help any older neighbours with tech troubles with iPads, laptops, mobiles, or apps. Using their tech skills, students have helped with everything from stubborn software glitches to navigating parking apps.

Says local resident, Nick Yates who was helped by the Tech Club: “I recently had my elderly PC converted from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and had lost some functions. I decided to seek help from the students of Warminster School. They also noticed that I was short on storage space, which would have caused future problems, so they also sorted this for me.

“They took the time to explain, in language that I could understand, what they were doing and why. I would highly recommend to anyone having PC or mobile phone problems that they should visit the Tech Club pop-up and talk to these delightful young people."

Warminster School will continue its weekly outreach community programmes in the September term, with the Tech Club Pop-Up sessions also every Wednesday afternoon at the Athenaeum.
