Tapis/Ultrafabrics, innovators in aviation materiality are launching The Comfort Zone at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg 6-8 June 2023. Comfort has been traditionally defined in a very singular way and The Comfort Zone offers a multi-layered approach for airlines who are thinking about distinguishing and elevating their overall passenger experience.

THE COMFORT ZONE

The different dimensions of comfort being presented include Thermal, Physical, Environmental and Sensory. “We felt that it was important for airlines to begin thinking about comfort beyond the physical realm” says Jason Estes Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing for Tapis. Estes goes on to say that “Materiality plays a bigger role than most people realize in delighting passengers, so we needed to deconstruct the idea of comfort and why it’s important for airlines to think differently about this fundamental feature”

The Comfort Zone will provide a forum to discuss each of the important elements of comfort and address the following questions:

Thermal Comfort: Can the material on an aircraft’s seat impact a passenger’s body temperature?

Physical Comfort: How can an airline use physical comfort as a true competitive advantage?

Environmental Comfort: Can seating material be both sustainable and comfortable?

Sensory Comfort: How can an airline use seating material to create a truly sensory experience on-board?

COLOR IN AVIATION

The Comfort Zone will also feature a new conversation about color. The interior color helps to bring an airline’s brand to life and is also a way to enable passenger comfort. Ultrafabrics partnered with Pantone to deliver new and exciting ways for designers to think about color, including a feature with the Pantone Color of the Year. Tapis/Ultrafabrics worked with ACRO on a series-6 seat covered in Ultraleather Vivid Punch, inspired by Pantone’s Viva Magenta which will be featured at the stand at AIX. This unique approach to color, comfort and seating in general should inspire an important conversation about the use of color in aviation design.

THE LOUNGE

AIX will also be the official launch of The Lounge, a destination that offers news, ideas, and information on aircraft interiors, and is a hub for an inside perspective on the future of aviation design. The Lounge will also include an exclusive monthly feature by John Walton, award-winning independent journalist and analyst specialising in transport, aviation, airlines, safety, and the passenger experience which will be informative and create discussion for the industry.
