While the colourful blooms of summer flowers are still some months away, there are some quick and easy jobs that can be done in early spring to tidy up borders and get some perennials planted ready for the warmer months.
Using the WOLF-Garten multi-change®, it’s a simple job to tidy borders and plant low-maintenance perennials such as hardy geraniums, rudbeckias and Hemerocallis – giving some structure and colour to a garden.
Lawns can become unkempt during the colder months, and it’s easy to lose sight of the line between flowerbed and grass. The half-moon design of the multi-change Lawn Edge Iron creates a neat and defined edge, while the integrated foot also allows the user to apply pressure without creating strain in the upper body.
An alternative option for creating a perfectly defined lawn edge is the multi-change Lawn Edge Trimmer, which can be used with a straight back, so no strain from bending occurs – great for using over large areas. The sharp, serrated blades cut cleanly along edges, while the roller motion makes the tool easy to manoeuvre. Not only that but it will last far beyond the season, as the blades are made from sprung steel, so are designed for prolonged use.
Once borders are straight, it’s time to consider the planting to bring some life back after the more barren winter months. Cold weather often makes ground harder and less malleable, so many gardeners choose to crumble up heavy soil with a toil such as the multi-change Soil Miller 15cm, which removes weeds and prepares the ground for planting. It can also be used to mix manure or fertiliser into the soil, to help create the perfect conditions to produce a bumper crop of beautiful plants.
After clearing the area of weeds and preparing the soil, it’s time to plant! This is where people can introduce their own styles, whether that’s with shades of purple with pretty violas, vibrant pinks with peonies or beautiful sunny hues with black-eyed Susan. Whichever plant is chosen, an ergonomic, easy to use tool will be needed. The multi-change Hand Trowel 8cm is ideal for carrying out precise planting. It is lightweight, easy to use and has a comfortable grip – ideal for time spent bringing some life back into the garden.
The handy thing about the multi-change tools in particular, is that each of the tools can be fixed onto one of 11 lightweight handles, allowing the user to choose the best one for each job. The range has everything from aluminium D-grip handles, right through to mini and telescopic handles, and a head for every job, which means that gardens can be tidied, beautified and made to look their best, long before the warmer weather is here.
