John Atkinson: England’s finest wool blankets

Published:
Read Time: 2 mins

John Atkinson's traditional wool blankets are woven and hand-finished in West Yorkshire, England, using the skills, knowledge and craftsmanship that can only be achieved by hundreds of years of passionate and dedicated manufacturing. John Atkinson blankets are crafted from 100% natural fibres, and are the perfect traditional finishing touch to any home.

Each wool blanket and throw is manufactured at AW Hainsworth’s fully vertical mill, giving complete control of the manufacturing process and drawing on the skills and craftsmanship learnt over the past 240 years. Made from the finest wool and cashmere, each product is lovingly woven to wear and to last, ensuring heirlooms for generations to come.

Cashmere: The ultimate luxury and softness. Our most luxurious feel with soft, fine cashmere for the dreamiest of dreams.

Lambswool and cashmere: Luxuriously light, using a blend of 85% lambswool and 15% cashmere to create a luxuriously light and soft weave.

Duchess: Softness and warmth all year round. Available in 7 colour options, the merino wool makes it super soft and warm. Ideal for keeping you warm when it's cold and cool when it's hot.

Siesta: Whipped stitch finish, super soft and warm. Ideal for all year round.

Elizabeth: Super softness and a luxurious finish of satin or velvet, 100% lambswool for warmth and a super soft feel.

Lightweight Merino: Something for the warmer months. It is a lighter alternative to the traditional merino, perfect for summer and warmer climates.

Harlequin and North Star: Hardwearing and practical, suitable all year round. Harlequin is finished with colour-coordinating whipped stitching on all sides, and North Star* is finished with colour-coordinating satin binding.

Atkincel: Warmth in a lighter blanket. All the warmth and comfort of a traditional wool blanket at a lighter weight. Ideal for all year round.

The Health Benefits of Sleeping under Wool

  • Enhanced REM sleep
  • Micro-climate control: Wool regulates your body temperature keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer. A steady temperature also leads to a more restful sleep.
  • Breathable and moisture-wicking: It allows moisture and air to flow through it, making it particularly ideal for people with conditions such as asthma and eczema.
  • Hypoallergenic: Wool is naturally hypoallergenic and is perfect for anyone with allergies or sensitivities, minimising allergens and irritants for healthier sleep.
  • Improved air quality: Wool fibres naturally absorb and hold on to various indoor pollutants, improving the quality of the air in your room and home while you sleep.
  • Antimicrobial: Due to its protein composition and unique surface scale structure on which bacteria are unable to survive. So you can sleep in the comfort it’s fresh and clean.
  • Superior comfort: Wool has a unique spring-like fibre structure. The natural crimp offers excellent support and relief from bed sores and other conditions.
  • Improved sleep satisfaction.
