Wishing to swerve egg hunts and chocolate overload this Easter? Why not escape for a treat with a difference and stay in England’s most authentic, fortified medieval castle hotel?

Award-winning Langley Castle Hotel, located just a short hop from Hexham and Hadrian’s Wall, is a glorious combination of sumptuous rooms, indulgent fine dining, intriguing medieval decor and breathtaking scenery - the perfect destination for a relaxing Easter getaway.

If rest and relaxation your top priority, Langley Castle's generous choice of luxurious castle rooms will provide the perfect setting for a little 'me time'. Five Feature Rooms and four Deluxe Rooms each nestle within seven-feet-thick walls, often offering romantic raised window seats set into those walls and medieval archways between room and modern bathroom.

The castle idyll is provided by four-poster beds in many rooms, whilst some have unanticipated features in their medieval setting, such as sauna and spa bath and walk-in dressing room.

If you want more contemporary luxury, or are on a tighter budget, head for the Castle View rooms, located in the converted former stable block. Here, features can include a king-sized bed in which to stretch out and a separate lounge area, where you can relax with a morning coffee. Majestic views of the castle await, whenever you leave the room.

Three Castle Lodge rooms, two with views of the castle and one overlooking the delightful courtyard and countryside beyond, are situated in a listed building within the grounds.

You can celebrate a new season of spring food, by sampling the delicious, seasonal fine dining menu at the castle's two-AA Rosette Josephine Restaurant. After an amuse-bouche, feast on a three-course meal, which could include a smoked salmon with lemon, beetroot and avocado starter, a main course of seared rump of lamb with rosti potato and redcurrant jus and Northumbrian heather honey cheesecake for dessert.

A relaxed-dining menu is available in the Drawing Room and what could be more indulgent than afternoon tea served there? Between 12pm and 4pm each day, hotel guests and non-residents can relax in a comfy armchair or on a deep sofa, enjoying a selection of savoury and sweet treats, perhaps washed down with a glass of chilled Prosecco or champagne.

If eyes can be drawn away from the mouth-watering delicacies for just a moment, they will be rewarded by the sight of tapestries hanging on the walls, sparkling chandeliers, and impressive knights in shining armour, not to mention a roaring log fire to cosy up to.

If it's invigorating spring walks you're after, then Langley Castle's historic setting is sure to inspire. Guests can wander the 12-acre woodland estate at their leisure, perhaps meeting a friendly peacock along the way. To really brush off those winter cobwebs, Hadrian's Wall and the fascinating Roman history of this World Heritage Site is a mere 10-minute drive away. Special guided tours with collection from Langley Castle's doors can also be arranged.

For a dose of medieval history a little closer to home, sign up for one of the daily Battlement Tours, after you have enjoyed a delicious Northumbrian breakfast. Tours reveal a rich 673 years of castle history, as well as highlighting genuine fortifications and medieval garderobes.

On Easter 2023 weekend, a two-night stay, based on two people sharing (bed and breakfast), ranges costs from £394.25 (Castle Lodge), from £432.25 (Castle View), from £610.85 (Deluxe Castle Room) and from £669.75 (Castle Feature Room). This is for two people sharing.
