The Best of Buda: the Side of Budapest You Need to Explore this Autumn
As autumn arrives in Europe, Budapest takes on a new glow - especially on the Buda side - where cobblestoned streets and centuries of history set the scene. While Pest is known for its lively cafes, nightlife, and grand boulevard, Buda offers a quieter, more calming pace - a place of storybook architecture, sweeping river views, and cultural landmarks that feel especially magical in the autumn light. Just steps from the UNESCO-listed Castle District, Kimpton BEM Budapest is the city’s newest opening, perfectly placed for travellers who want to soak up culture and stories of time gone by this season.
What makes Buda special in Autumn?
With its charming streets, leafy hillside, and golden-hued architecture, Buda is at its best in autumn. The paths are scattered with amber and rust-coloured leaves, painting them in seasonal hues. From the Castle District, visitors can take in sweeping views of the Danube and Pest, wander through landmarks such as Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church, then retreat from the crisp air to relax in one of Budapest’s famous thermal baths. For a taste of nature, the wooded trails around Janos-hegy - the highest peak above Budapest - are perfect for an autumn walk. As evening falls, the Danube shimmers in golden light, framing the Chain Bridge and Parliament in a picture-perfect glow.
Kimpton BEM Budapest opened in September 2024, marking the brand’s debut in Eastern Europe, combining bold, open-minded design whilst being the only celebrity-designed Kimpton hotel. Located just 30 minutes from Budapest International Airport, opposite the iconic Margit-sziget - the city’s most scenic running path. Transformed from a 19th-century mansion, the 127-room hotel was designed by Marcel Wanders. Renowned for his unconventional and imaginative approach, Wanders has created a hotel that both honours Hungary’s rich folklore and celebrates the vitality of its capital through Maximalism and bold Expression. This is also the tenth and final hotel project designed by Marcel Wanders Studio. Guests can choose from stylish guestrooms or suites with private terraces, including an Observation Suite, which is complete with an expansive rooftop perfect for stargazing.

About Kimpton BEM Budapest
The opening of Kimpton BEM Budapest in September 2024 marked Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants’ first boutique luxury hotel in Hungary and their first property in Eastern Europe. Set within a restored 19th-century mansion on the Buda side of the Danube, the 127-room property – including 8 suites – has been designed by Dutch visionary Marcel Wanders (one of just ten fortunate hotels he’s designed in the last two decades of his career, with Kimpton BEM Budapest being his final project). The hotel’s interiors draw inspiration from Hungarian folklore and yet are contemporary in design, with features ranging from upside-down egg-shaped reception desks to a glass atrium showcasing a golden stag.
Kimpton BEM Budapest offers views across the river to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks and places guests within easy reach of the UNESCO-listed Castle District, Fisherman’s Bastion, and Budapest’s famed bathing culture. Three inventive dining concepts form part of the experience, underpinned by a strong sustainability ethos that incorporates energy-efficient systems, waste reduction measures, and a commitment to local sourcing. Their restaurant AGOS has been awarded two Toques by Gault&Millau, and is amongst the Top 35 Restaurants in Hungary. Wellness is also central to the hotel, with a tranquil spa and treatments influenced by the city’s thermal history and heritage.
As part of IHG’s Low Carbon Pioneer program, Kimpton BEM Budapest leads the way in sustainable hospitality with energy-efficient systems, eco-certified suppliers, and a deep commitment to local sourcing and environmental responsibility. They have also been awarded One MICHELIN Key in 2025 and have been chosen as Tripadvisor’s number one Luxury Hotel in Hungary.
The Kimpton group has around 79 hotels currently open globally. With two hotels opening in 2025, Kimpton Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with 471 rooms, and Kimpton Sicily, Italy, which is opening late 2025.
