TEAM Energy has published a new market briefing examining how ISO 14001:2026 could influence organisations’ approach to environmental management, carbon reduction and net zero planning. The revised standard places greater emphasis on climate change, leadership accountability, lifecycle thinking and environmental resilience, encouraging organisations to integrate environmental performance more closely into strategic and operational decision-making.
Written by Tim Holman, Head of Consultancy at TEAM, the briefing explains that while ISO 14001:2026 is not a net zero standard, its governance, controls and continual-improvement framework can provide a strong foundation for carbon reduction and wider sustainability objectives.
“The most effective approach to ISO 14001:2026 is to start with a structured gap analysis rather than treating the revision as a standalone documentation exercise. Reviewing leadership, environmental objectives, operational controls, supplier processes and performance evidence together can help organisations identify genuine gaps, prioritise improvements and focus resources where change is actually needed.”
