CANOLFAN John Burns Centre in Kidwelly has announced it is now a carbon negative building.
The state-of-the-art building is powered by solar panels heated by a biomass boiler. The assessment for the building’s Energy Performance Certificate identified around 55 tonnes of CO2 savings per year compared to a building using fossil fuels. In addition the facility includes disability access, a hearing loop for those with hearing difficulties and electric car charging points.
Set in 20 acres of farmland, the building – owned by Kidwelly-based business Burns Pet Nutrition – is used as a community centre, training facility and conference centre, as well as being home to The John Burns Foundation.
“As part of the Kidwelly community for close to 30 year, I feel it is vitally important that we make a positive impact on our local environment”, said John Burns, Founder of Burns Pet Nutrition.
“As life starts to return to normal following the pandemic, community centres will play a vital role in bringing people back together. I hope the people and businesses of Kidwelly and surrounding areas can feel proud to call the Canolfan John Burns Centre their own.”
The centre is extensively used for parenting classes, dog training, and houses five large rooms that can be hired for events and conferences.
