PET owners think having a new puppy is harder than bringing up a CHILD, according to a new report.
The study reveals that almost THREE MILLION families have taken on a dog since the coronavirus pandemic began last year and there are now more than 12million pooches in Britain.
But a quarter of those who bought a lockdown puppy say they’ve found it harder to cope with than a child, and have even considered returning their pets because of struggles in handing them.
Issues include problems training the animals, mess and damage to the house, worry about leaving them alone as lockdown ends, and fears they could bite strangers.
Burns Pet Nutrition is making their Puppy Club FREE to new puppy owners, to help give them extra support. The Burns Puppy Club is a special membership club created to help new pet parents navigate the first year of their pup’s life.
Membership, which usually costs £9.99, gives owners a complimentary 6kg of award-winning pet food (2kg puppy food & 4kg of adult food), 12 months of need-to-know advice delivered by expert nutritionists, plus exclusive member gifts such as a birthday card when your pooch turns one.
The aim of Burns Pet Nutrition Puppy Club is to ensure that new puppies get the best start in life as possible. The less time owners spend worrying about how to take care of their pup, the more time they get to spend with it.
Veteran vet John Burns, the founder of the pet food company said: “In 2020 we saw an unprecedented number of dogs retuned to kennels or being abandoned.
“At Burns Pet Nutrition we want to enable dog owners to give their pets the best possible start in life. That is why we are making Puppy Club FREE. So far, we have given away over two and a half tons of dog food. Alongside this, we also aim to provide dog owners the best online support available”.
